Dodson, June bridal couple, were
honored on Saturday evening,
May 12 at a dinner party in the din
ing room at Southern National
Bank in Lumberton. Hosts were
Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Austin, Mr.
and Mrs. Bobby Gibson, Mr. and
i Mrs. W.L. Howell Jr., Mrs. Jean
Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Benny
McLeod, Mrs. Louise Sawyer, and
Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Upchurch.
The tables were centered with ar
rangements of yellow daisies in
ceramic baskets. Punch was served
on arrival, and a buffet was served
to 30 guests.
The bride was presented a cor
sage, and the couple was presented
gifts in their chosen pattern.
Beth Jordan, June bride-elect
was honored on Thursday evening
at a dinner party at the home of
Mrs. John K. McNeill Jr. Hosting
the party were members of the
Tuesday evening bridge club.
Covers were laid for twelve at
small tables centered with dainty
arrangements of sweetheart roses.
A three course meal was served.
Miss Jordan was remembered
with a gift of china and a daisy cor
sage.
Guests were Miss Jane Tifton of
Spartanburg, S.C. and Mrs. Luke
McNeill, aunt of the bride.
Bridge was played, and Miss
Ellen Currie won high score. Mrs.
Luke McNeill won the visitor's
prize.
UDC members hold May meeting
The May meeting of the Raeford
United Daughters of the Con
federacy chapter was held at the
home of Mrs. Marie Lee and Mrs.
Kathleen Wilson. Mrs. Lillian
Wood led the devotional. The
president, Mrs. Treva Koonce,
presided and led the Ritual,
allegiance and salutes to the flags.
Miss Josephine Hall reported on
the Memorial Day Services held on
May 10 at the Philadelphus
Presbyterian Church. This was
sponsored by the Red Springs
U.D.C. chapter. After the services
in the church, flags were placed on
graves of Confederate Veterans in
the graveyard of the church.
A luncheon was served by the
hostess chapter. Those attending
from the Raeford Chapter were:
Mrs. Aline Wright, Mrs. Lillian
Wood, Mrs. Marianna McLean,
Misses Josephine Hall, Sarah
Lytch, and Isabel McFadyen.
A contribution was made to the
"History Bowl Finals" to be held
on May 18 in Raleigh. This is spon
sored by the N.C. Department of
Cultural Resources.
Plans were made for the "Jef
ferson Davis Luncheon" to be held
June 8.
Members were reminded of the
Open House at the State Head
quarters in Raleigh on Saturday
May 19.
Flags were distributed. These
will be placed on graves of Con
federate Veterans.
The poem of the month - "Tell
the Boys the War is Over" - was
read by Miss Isabel McFadyen.
A sweet course with punch was
served by the hostesses during the
social hour.
Joy Overton is honoree at shower
A bridal shower was given for
Miss Joy Overton, Sunday May
6th at Pittman Grove Baptist
Church. The bridal shower was
hosted by Jeris Overton, mother of
the bride-to-be and Glenda Cam
pas.
The bride-to-be was presented
with a lavender and pink silk cor
sage by Terri Overton, sister of (he
bride-to-be.
Refreshments served included
fruit punch, finger sandwiches,
cheeseballs, crackers, vegetable
tray, dip and a bridal shower cake
decorated with lavender and pink
roses.

Miss Juli Gibson was honored
with a lingerie shower, Saturday,
April 28 at the home of Mrs. Gay
Ivey Barnes.
Mrs. Barnes was hostess for the
shower.
A dozen guests were served cake
squares, nuts, and punch.
Out of town guests included
Mrs. Brenda Maynard, sister of
the prospective groom and Mrs.
Christine Spring, mother of the
groom, both of Durham.
Also, Mrs. Ann DAnnunzio,
from Fayetteville, attended.
On Sunday, May 6, a
miscellaneous floating shower was
held for Miss Gibson at the Sher
ron Acres Baptist Church
Fellowship Hall in Durham.
Hostesses were Mrs. Susan
Dempsey, Mrs. Becky Lane, Mrs.
Brenda Maynard, Mrs. JoAnn
Parrish and Mrs. Mattie Lane.
Guests were served refreshments
of cake squares, nuts, mints,
chocolates and punch.

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

The bride is the daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. William Greene Sutlive II
of Savannah. The groom is the son
of Mrs. Fred Jennings Stanback of
Salisbury and Eugene Clyde
Brooks III of Hillsborough. He is
also the grandson of Mrs. R.A.
Matheson of Raeford and the late
Dr. R.A. Matheson.
The bride is a certified E.D.
nurse with a specialty in trauma
flight and is employed in the
emergency department at
Memorial Medical Center in
Savannah. The bridegroom is a
graduate of the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
where he received his law degree.
He is a member of the North
Carolina and Georgia state bars
and is employed as an attorney
with the Middletown and Ander
son law firm.
Following a wedding trip, the

Gore-Jude couple
married Saturday
Mrs. William Anthony Gore
Miss Stephanie Renae Jude and
William Anthony Gore, both of
Raeford were married Saturday,
May 12 at 2 p.m. at the 82nd Air
borne Division South Chapel in
Fort Bragg. The double ring
ceremony was officiated by
Chaplain Daniel Wolboldt.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jimmie E. Jude of
Raeford. The parents of the groom
are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gore, also
of Raeford.
Wedding music was provided by
organist, Teresa Moser of Aber
deen and soloist Michelle Crotty,
sister of the bride. Selections in
cluded "Let It Be Me" and "Just
You And I".
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a formal gown of
organza featuring a Queen Anne
neckline, fitted waist, leg of mut
ton sleeves and a chapel length
train. Chantilly lace and pearls
adorned the bodice. The sleeves
and skirt were accented with chan
tilly lace. She wore a fitted head
piece with matching lace and a
fingertip illusion veil. Her colonial
nosegay was of white miniature
carnations, white sweetheart roses
and baby's breath with lace
streamers.
Kathy Orem served as her
sister's matron of honor. She wore
a formal gown of violet taffeta.
The gown had a full gathered skirt,
fitted waistline, spaghetti straps
and puff sleeves. A jacket with ruf
fled collar completed the outfit.
She carried a nosegay of white
daisies, lavender daisies, purple
statice and baby's breath.
Denise Jude, sister of the bride
was her sister's bridesmaid. She
wore an orchid gown like that of
the honor attendant.
Best man was Jerry Gore, father
of the groom. Ushers were Randy
Branch, Gerald Currie and Timmy
Currie.
The wedding was directed by
Carolyn Boose of Fayetteville.
The bride is a graduate of Hoke
County High School and attended
Sandhills Community College. She
is employed by Safeway Finance
Corp. of Raeford. The groom is a
graduate of Hoke County High
School and is employed by Pepsi
Cola Bottling Co. of Fayetteville.
A reception was given following
the ceremony by the parents of the
bride at the Main NCO at Ft.
Bragg. The bride's book was kept
by Cindy Rogers, sister of the
groom. Terri Sullivan, cousin of
the bride poured punch. Cake was
served by Millie Sullivan, cousin of
the bride and Dot Sullivan, aunt of
the bride.
After a wedding trip to Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina the couple
will be at home in Raeford.
A rehearsal dinner was given at
the home of the groom's parents.
Gifts were presented to the atten
dants at this time.

Father Paul Strassle announced
recently that three Hoke County
High School students have been
accepted for membership in The
Society of Distinguished American
Fligh School Students. James
Ward, John Ward and Timothy
Ward have met the criteria for ac
ceptance into the Society. They
will now compete for college
scholarships.
