Outstanding junior officer Paul Currie (right), formerly of Raeford, is presented an award for being selected the Peterson Air Force Base 1983 Junior Officer of the Year for the Headquarters Space Communications Division. The pla que is being presented by Brigadier General John Paul Hyde, USAF, during a recent awards banquet held to honor Currie's achievement. Currie is the son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. D.S. All of these classes are non credit. Inza Abernathy will be teaching a class in Notary Public Education at the Hoke County Public Library on Tuesday and Thursday night, May 22 and 24. The class will meet from 7-9 p.m. Participants should be 18 or older and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Students must also be registered voters in the State of North Carolina. The cost of this class is $10. Almeta Smith will be offering two courses at the Wayside Com munity Building on Wednesdays beginning May 23 and continuing through June 27. From 9-12 noon Mrs. Smith will teach Sewing and from 1-4 she will offer Quilting. The registration fee is SIS for each of these classes. A course that will be offered for the first time in Hoke County is Sharon Shaw's "Survival Skills in Written Communication." The course is intended for those planning to go to college from high school, for older individuals in terested in going to college but who are frightened of writing, and for those who simply want to improve their communication skills. The course is aimed toward in dividualized or small group in struction. Students will be allowed to prac tice whatever type of writing will help them the most, whether it be essays, letters, or sentences and paragraphs. This class will meet from 9-5 on Monday ? Wednesday and from 9-2 on Thursday, May 21-24. The registration fee is $10, and the class will be held at the Hoke County Public Library. As with all classes offered at Sandhills, there is no registration fee for North Carolina residents age 63 or older. Students may register at the first class meeting.
