21-year-old Raeford man charged for abduction, rape By Ed Miller A 21-year-old Raeford man was in jail under $50,000 bond Tuesday after being charged with first degree burglary, second degree kidnapping and second degree rape. On Sunday, a victim reported that Floyd Dupree had come into her house and followed her into the bathroom, where she was try ing to escape him. The suspect apparently broke down the bathroom door, and took the victim to a wooded area in West Hoke where he attemped to rape her, Hoke County Sheriff's reports show. When she would not comply, Dupree allegedly let her out of the car. She left the scene on foot, but later accepted a ride home with her alleged attacker, the report said. Early this week Dupree was ar rested after being served with war rants charging him with the crimes. In an unrelated matter, sheriff's reports say that there was $750 worth of damage done to a car by vandals last Tuesday. Antonio B. Walker told deputies that he had been out of town and that when he returned, he found that his car had been damaged. The mirror was broken off the driver's side door and numerous dents and scratches had been put in both sides of the car as well as on the hood. The report said there are no suspects. In other vandalism, Clemantine Haynes reported to police officers that the rear tires on her 1978 Ford had been cut. The damage was estimated to be about $52. The matter is under investiga tion. Two lawn mowers were reported stolen last week. A Raeford resident, Mrs. C.M. Baker told police officials that last Sunday she noticed her mower missing. The mower was reported to be worth about $275. Last Saturday, Betty Sue Wilson, also of Raeford, told sheriff's deputies that her lawn mower had been stolen and that it was worth $145. Sheriff's reports say that Jamie Oscar Suarez told deputies that his wallet had been taken. Suarez was at Arabia Cash Mart purchasing gas. His wallet had been in the pocket of his golf bag, the report says. When he reached the golf course, he went to retrieve the wallet, and it was gone. According to the report, Suarez thinks the wallet was taken at the gas stop. The victim reported that there was $175 in cash as well as six credit cards within the wallet. Arabia Auto Sales reported the apparent theft of a set of tires and rims off of one of their cars last Thursday. According to the report, shoe prints of two different types were seen around the Dodge Charger. County officers have two suspects in the case, the report said. Cathy Johnston reported that one of her mobile homes had been broken into. The sheriff's report said that she and her husband own several trailers in Harmony Heights. An unidentified woman had called Johnston and told her to check a particular trailer, the report said. Upon doing so last Tuesday, it was found that the refrigerator had been removed from the premises and that the back door had been forced open. Johnston reported the loss at about $150. Sandra Ramey reported to the Sheriff's Department that the Raeford Animal Clinic was broken into last Thursday. According to the report, there were some papers scattered about, but nothing was found missing. Sheriff's reports show that Lawrence Graham reported that Snake bite victim recovering at home Friday afternoon proved to be one that Frank Miller, of Raeford, may not soon forget. Miller was in his back yard when he was apparently bitten on the finger by a rattlesnake. According to a report. Miller was reaching down to move a cinder block when he was struck by the reptile. The victim reported the ap parent crime last Thursday. A Raford resident reported that his house had been broken into and that $120 in cash, two cartons of cigarettes and a 12-pack of beer were taken. Charles Boyd Thomas reported that he had gone to the store, and that when he returned, the items were gone. Witnesses said that two juveniles were seen entering the house, the sheriff's report said. One of the boys was questioned in the matter, according to the report. The investigation is continuing. Two unrelated shopliftings were thwarted at the local Maxway store last week. One incident involved a 9-year old who allegedly took a toy robot worth about $4. The child was caught and turned over to juvenile authorities, Raeford Police Chief Leonard Wiggins said, adding that the robot was recovered. Police reports also show that the manager of Maxway chased two suspects through the parking lot of (he store. The pair were believed to have stolen two pairs of short pants. The suspects got away, but the clothes were recovered after the suspects allegedly dropped them in their haste to escape. The manager reported that the car had South Carolina license tags. Charles Miller Jr. reported to police that he had parked his car behind the local Convenient Mart while he played video games in side. According to the report, when he returned, he found that his glove compartment had been entered and his graphic equalizer had been apparently stolen. The car was not locked, the report said. Hoke High School was reported ly broken into over the weekend. Chief Wiggins said that the perpetrators went into the office through a back window and took about SI5 worth of candy. A&P food store reported that Gary Bease allegedly attempted to take two packs of boiled ham, worth just over $4, from that store Monday.
