Mrs. Wright
Mrs. Julian Wright hosted her
bridge dub June 21. All members
were present.
Mrs. Wright served sherbet and
pound cake, iced tea and coffee for
the dessert course. Fruit punch,
and snacks were served during pro
gressions.
High score prize was won by
Mrs. Jean Johnson, while Mrs.
Berder Niven was awarded low
score. Mrs. Avery Connell won the
bingo game.

Mrs. Glass
Mrs. Carra Belle Maultsby Glass
celebrated her birthday June 16
with a poolside barbeque at her
home in Fayetteville. Mrs. Glass
moved from Raeford in 1946. She
is the daughter of the late John
Selph Maultsby and Flora Isabelle
Bethune Maultsby of Raeford.
About 40 guests and relatives
were on hand to celebrate with
Mrs. Glass. Guests from Raeford,
including James Lentz, formerly,
of Raeford, were present and Mrs.
Glass received many calls from
Raeford residents.

Overnight guests of Mrs. Marian
na McLean on Wednesday were
her brother, John Benson
Johnson, his wife, Karen and their
son, Lewis. Joining them for
breakfast were Mrs. McLean's
daughter and son-in-law and
grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Crumpler and Josh.
Warren V. Dukes, son of Mrs. Ella
Mae Dukes, has been nominated
for honorary award recognition by
Who's Who Among American
High School Students. This is a na
tional honor for junior and senior
high school students who have ex
celled in academics, athletics ttrtx
tra curricular activities.

of Wilson spent Saturday visiting
Mr. and Mrs. Ed McDuffie.
Melissa Hinnant of Tampa,
Florida is visiting her grand
parents, the Mc Duffies, this week.
Weekend guest of Mrs. Martha
Nave was her daughter, Mrs. Deb
bie Tolar and Pete from Manteo.
Mrs. Tolar was honored at a cook
out and birthday party also Satur
day evening at her mother's house.

Black Teen
winners
picked
The first annual Miss and Mr.
Black Teenage World of Hoke
County Pageant was held June 16
at Upchurch Junior High School.
This year's pageant consisted of
fifteen contestants with four
categories of competition: creative
expression, sports wear, talent and
evening wear.
Dennis Wallker won the creative
expression category and Larry
Bease was judged most talented.
Angela McLaughlin was chosen
Miss Congeniality.
First runner up for Miss Black
Teenage World was Wanda
Stephens.
Teresa Dudley was selected Miss
Black Teenage World 1984. She is
a rising junior at Hoke County
High School and is the daughter of
Mrs. Lorraine Dudley.
First runner up in the male
category went to Dennis Walker.
Chosen for Mr. Black Teenage
World of 1984 was Victor Town
send. Victor is a junior and is the
grandson of the Reverend Rebecca
Townsend.
Friendship Club
to hold meet
The Raeford Friendship Club
will meet Tuesday, July 3 at 2:30
p.m. at the Hoke County Public
Library.
Members are to bring old pic
tures.

Tindall-Stanton vows spoken here
Linda Sue Stanton and Ralph
W. Tindall of Raeford were mar
ried at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at
the Raeford Presbyterian Church.
Dr. John C. Ropp officiated at the
double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Wilbert A. Stanton of
Raeford and the late Mr. Stanton.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and
Mrs. James E. Tyndall, also of
Raeford. The couple are graduates
of Hoke County High School and
the groom also attended Sandhills
Community College.
Wedding music was provided by
Chris Watkins, organist and Miss
Cecelia Ropp and Miss Betty
Odom, soloists. Selections includ
ed "The Wedding March", "En
treat Me Not To Leave Thee",
"The Wedding Song" and "The
Wedding Prayer."
The altar was adorned with an
arrangement of mauve lilies, pink
and white carnations, lavender
asters, feverfew, white heather and
pink bridal roses. Flanking the
altar were two white wedding
baskets filled with matching ar
rangements. Candle light was used
with a pair of fifteen branch
candelabra, a nine branch
candelabra and a seven branch
candelabra. A double kneeling
bench was used by the bride and
groom as they knelt in prayer after
lighting the unity candle. The
mother's pews were marked with
hurricane globes and ar
rangements.
The bride was escorted by her
uncle, Jackie Laviner. She wore a
floor length gown of white silk
organza featuring a Queen Anne
neckline. The fitted bodice was
covered with Chantilly lace and
pearls. The dress featured split
shadow sleeves accented by Chan
tilly lace appliques. The natural
waistline extended into a pyramid
shaped insert on the skirt and into
a cathedral train. She wore a flop
hat with alencon lace and seed
pearls. Queen Anne lace was at
tached to the hat and draped down
to the waistline of the gown.
She carried a cascading bouquet
of orchids, lilies, lily of the valley
and wedding ribbons.
Miss Betty Odom served as maid
of honor. Bridesmaids were Sherry
Hasty of Raeford, Betty Tindall,
sister of the groom, Terri Weese,
cousin of the bride of Fayetteville

Junior bridesmaids were Kim Tut
tle, Connie Lee, Kim Harrell, and
Dana Hagins all of Raeford. The
bridesmaids wore rose gowns and
the junior bridesmaids wore pink.
They were of matte taffeta in the
bouffant style with drop shoulder
ruffles. The skirt was full and
featured ruffles on the hemline.
They carried cascading silk bou
quets of mauve and rose orchids
and assorted blossoms.
Kristin Morrison served as
flower girl. She wore a long gown
of pink accented with lace. She
carried a basket of pink rose petals
and scattered them along the aisle.
Ushers were Ronnie Ellis, Mark
Posey, Gene Hasty and Jerry
Goza. Ring bearer was George
Britt.
The mother of the bride wore a
floor length gown of aqua chiffon
with empire waist and a chiffon
drape around the shoulders. She
had an orchid corsage.
The groom's mother wore a
floor length gown of rose chiffon
with pleated drape over gown. She
also had an orchid corsage.
The wedding ceremony was
directed by Mrs. John Ropp.
RECEPTION
The mother of the bride hosted a
reception following the ceremony
in the church fellowship hall.
Guests were greeted by Mr. and
Mrs. Neill McFadyen, Sr.
The table was decorated with an
arrangement of mauve and pink
flowers. Matching flowers were us
ed around the bottom of the cake.
The top of the wedding cake was
decorated with a miniature bridal
bouquet of roses and lilies. The
register table was graced with a
bud vase of pink bridal roses and a
single taper in a hurricane globe.
Mrs. Jackie Laviner poured
punch. Cake was served by Mrs.
Rosa Cole. The bride's book was
kept by her aunt Mrs. Harvey Hill.
Mrs. Ralph W. Tindall
Tea girls were Christy Laviner and
Heather Britt. Goodbyes were said
by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hasty.
For travel the bride chose a sun
dress of blue, pink and green.
After a wedding trip to the beach
the couple will reside in Raeford.
REHEARSAL DINNER
The. parents of the groom were
hosts for a dinner at Edinborough
Restaurant on Saturday evening.
The dining area was decorated
with pink roses. Guests were serv
ed roast beef, green beans,
potatoes, iced tea and chocolate
dessert.
BRIDESMAIDS' LUNCHEON
A luncheon for the bridesmaids'
was held on Saturday, June 16, at I
the home of Betty Odom.
Upon arrival the bride was
presented a corsage of daisies by
the hostess.
In the dining area, places were
set for twelve at two tables. The
tables were covered with pink and
white lace cloths. Arrangements of
white daisies and pink roses adorn
ed the center of each tdble.
The buffet luncheon of fried!
chicken, English peas, and
strawberry salad was served with
pineapple pie and chocolate cake
for dessert.
The luncheon was hosted by
maid of honor Betty Odom and
her mother, Mrs. Willie C. Odom.
