Kick it up The mud started flying about 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Raeford Sand and Gravel pits on the Highway 401 by-pass. Different classes of vehicles slopped their way through mud and grit until about 6 p.m. Here muds slings and crowds seem to be wondering whether the trucks will ever come clean. Ray tops dragsters Larry Jlay of Raeford captured a first placc Sunday at the Farm ington Dragway and garnered a 52,000 prize for his efforts. Ray finished first out of 92 cars to win the Top Gas division and the grand prize of the day. The Raeford driver piloted his Camero to victory on the 1/8 mile course at the dragway, which is outside Winston-Salem. He becomes the 18th driver to capture the $2,000 top prize since the competition started in 1980 at the Farmington Dragway. Pittman Grot^e captures two The Pittman Grove Raider's (7-1) rolled on beating Lake Lynn 7-2, and overwhelming Arron Lakes 33-6 this week. Leading hitters for Sunday's game were R. Shepley 2-4, P. Man ning 2-4, G. Jackson 2-4, T. Clark 2-4. Monday's leaders were: P. Man ning 3-5, M. Madden 3-5 2 hrs. R. Shelpey 4-5 2 hrs., R. Cook 3-5, C. Batton 3-5. The "Raiders" play at home against a strong Mt. (Photo by Pam Frederick ) Bike-a-tkon successful Youths ages six- 16 participated in a Bike-a-thon recently as a part of the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church annual fund rais ing effort on behalf of Shaw University and Shaw Divinity School. Children as young as six years old pedaled two miles; while youths 11-16 biked 10 miles. Later, they were served a spaghetti luncheon by Mrs. Mary Owens, Youth Director, and Mrs. Betty L. Sites will be open Monday-Friday (Closed July 4) from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m The program is free and is open to those ages 5-16. The following sites will be used: J.W.
