Raeford Lions hold banquet Raeford Lions Club held its an nual Installation Banquet, June 25 at the Civic Center. Wives of the members were special guests. Invitation An open invitation is extended to the class and faculty of 1977, Hoke County High School, for a wedding reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Kemp. The reception will be Saturday, July 7, from 6-9 p.m. at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Kemp, 638 Dockery Road. The couple was married on June 30, in Carbondale, Illinois. After dinner, Lion Raz Autry presided over the installation. The evening ended with door prizes awarded to members and the wives. Birthdays Mable Tew Mrs. Mable Tew celebrated her 70th birthday June 28 with a party at Fen-ell's in Fayetteville. Mrs. Tew's daughters, Margaret Tillison and Betty Tew, honored their mother with the party. Mrs. Tew was also honored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren with a party at McDonald's in Fayetteville. Rockfish News By Polly Barnard Td. S75-2736 Rockfish Extension Home makers Club met in the home of Mrs'. Star W. Sessoms Tuesday Morning, June 26. Mrs. Jimmy Culp and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard presented the program of Ways of saving money in the home. After the meeting adjourned a buffet lunch was enjoyed with the fellowship hour. Mrs. Ellen Willis was a guest at the meeting. Communion was observed at Tabernacle Baptist Church during morning worship service Sunday. Rev. James B. Dees filled the pulpit. Sunday was "Christian Citizen ship Day" and Independence Day was celebrated at Tabernacle Bap tist Church with a picnic and watermelon slicing in the Fellowship Hall Sunday evening. The theme for the worship ser vice was "Recognizing Our Freedom". Everyone joined in signing patriotic hymns and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Chris tian Flag and the Bible was repeated in unison. Rev. James Dees sermon topic was; "You Can Be Free." Vacation Bible School was a great success at Tabernacle Baptist Church last week. The high atten dance was 174. The closing pro gram was Friday evening. The children presented a musical; "Share A Little Sunshine," which was accompain ed by studies that were made dur ing the week of the participation of the children, after which diplomas and awards were presented. The church was filled to capaci ty. Thanks to Principal of Bible School, Mrs. Mamie bundy and all those who made Bible School a success. The Jubilee Choir at Tabernacle Baptist Church accompanied by director, Mrs. Archie Barringer went to Benson and participated in the Statewide singing Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. Joan Gaddis attended, the Hudson family reunion held at the First Presbyterian Church in Erwin last weekend. Herbert Long is home after spending several days in Cape Fear Vattey Hospital last week. Mrs. Jack Guy is recuperating at hone following ?fj at Cape Fear Valley Hospital last week. Mrs. Grady English spent a cou ple of days with her sister Mrs. Ar thur Watson of Elizabethtown recently. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shuman of Orlando Florida visited Mr. and Mrs Thomas McColl over the weekend and attended Sunday School with them Sunday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mary Ro*o _Busby Sanford-Lupo nuptials spoken Saturday The marriage of Sylvia Diana Lupo and Wade Lewis Sanford took place Saturday, June 30 at 2 p.m. The Reverend George McKeithan officiated at the double ring ceremony at the Hill crest Bap tist Church in Raeford. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Wade Lupo of Raeford. Parents of the groom are George Lewis Sanford of Fair banks, Alaska and Mrs. Joyce Lane of Morton, Washington. The church was decorated with mixed flowers, palms, ferns and candlelight. Two floral baskets of white gladioli, mums and carna tions, lavender daisies and pink roses were placed by the altar. Two seven branch candelabra entwined with greenery graced the altar area. The mothers' pews were marked with small bouquets of mixed flowers and streamers. Family pews were indicated by white bows and streamers. Betsy Smith of St. Pauls served as pianist. Soloist was Mrs. Evelyn Butler also of St. Pauls. Selections included "Endless Love" and "Just You And I". The bride, given in marriage by her father wore a formal gown of white matte taffeta. It featured a fitted bodice with a sweetheart neckline accented with seed pearls and appliques. The gown had a fit ted V-point in the back with off the shoulder puff sleeves with roses. A chapel length train edged with Venice lace was attached to the skirt. The veil was waltz length and attached to a halo of silk flowers and seed pearls. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of white tiger lilies, white carnations, babies' breath, white and lavender roses and streamers with love knots. Jennifer Austin was maid of honor. She wore a long wisteria taffeta gown with fitted bodice, puff sleeves and gathered skirt. She carried a wicker basket of white stephanotis, lavender roses, pink lilies, babies' breath and streamers with love knots. She wore a comb of matching flowers and streamers in her hair. Bridesmaids were Sandra Lupo, sister of the bride, Karen and Diane Sanford, sisters of the groom, Evelyn Lupo, cousin of the bride and Ronda Tatum. Junior bridesmaid was Andrea Lupo, cousin of the bride. They wore gowns like that of the honor atten dant in pink. Their flowers and headpieces were also like that of the maid of honor. Honorary attendants were Mrs. Patti Lunsford and Mrs. Debi Vin cent. Flower girl was Jennifer Miller, cousin of the bride. Her gown was fashioned like that of the other at tendants. Ring bearer was Dusty Lupo, cousin of the bride. Bryan Studer served as best man. Ushers were Jim Lane, step father of the groom, Bryan Williams, Joe Buckintine, David Autry Sr., cousin of the bride and Jeffrey Autry, cousin of the bride. The groom was attired in gray tails. The groom's attendants wore gray tuxedoes with matching vests and accessories. The bride's mother wore a lilac chiffon gown with V-neck, street length gathered skirt and matching belt. Her corsage was a lavender throated white orchid. The mother of the groom wore a blue polyester street length gown featuring straight neckline, short sleeves and straight skirt. She had a white orchid corsage. The wedding was directed by Barbara Lupo. The bride is a 1981 graduate of Hoke High School, attended UNC-Wilmington and is presently attending Fayetteville Technical Institute. The groom is a 1982 graduate of Capitol High School in Olympia, Washington. He is with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. RECEPTION The bride's parents entertained guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the ceremony. Guests were greeted by the bride's parents, the groom's mother, the maid of honor, the best man and the bridal couple. A candelabrum arrangement was used on the refreshment table. Mixed flowers were used on the gift table. A rose bud in a vase graced the register table. The bride's book was kept by Mr. and Mrs. William Norris. Ser ving were Mrs. Betty Brock, Mrs. Frances Hawkins and Mrs. Patsy Autry. Tea girls were Kimberly Hawkins, Melissa Brock, and Julie Riley. Also assisting with the reception was Mrs. Linda Scott. ^or travel the bride wore a tan Mrs. Wade Lewis Sanford polyester suit with brown trim and matching blouse and accessories. The couple will make their home in Raeford after a wedding trip to the west coast. A- rehearsal dinner was held June 29 at the church fellowship hall. After dinner the couple presented gifts to their attendants. OUT OF TOWN GUESTS Out of town guests at the wedding included Susan Upchurch of Wilmington and Mr. and Mrs. Willie thpo and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lupo of Hampton, Virginia. A floating shower was given for the bride elect June 7 by Barbara Lupo, Marilyn Norris and Wanda Lupo. Out of town guests were Mrs. Mary Autry, grandmother of the bride and Mrs. Patsy Autry both of St. Pauls, Mrs. Sherry Antley, Mrs. Patti Lunsford and Mrs. Debi Vincent of Fayetteville. A miscellaneous shower was given June 14 by Mrs. David Gib son and Mrs. John Street. Out of town guests were Mrs. Mary Autry and Mrs. George Beddow of St. Pauls.
