DEADLINES: Weddings, Thursday, Noon Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. Howard-Ban couple pledges wedding vows on June 2 Lindy Elizabeth Barr and James Patrick Howard were married Saturday, June 2 at 12:30 p.m. at the Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Reverend Joseph Howard of Michigan, uncle of the groom officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Bar bara Sue Sheppard of Chocowinity and the late Johnnie Clifton Barr Jr. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Thomas Howard of Washington. Wedding music was provided by Debbie Brown, organist and soloists, Sister Margaret Gallagher and John Byrd of Washington. The bride escorted by her uncle, Lloyd Earl Mills Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia wore a Bianchi original gown of white chiffon in the empire style. The bodice was covered in Alencon lace and seed pearls. It featured a scoop neck, full sheer sleeves and lace cuffs. The scoop back was enhanced with a double chiffon ruffle. The full skirt and round sweep train were of white imported chiffon. The bride's veil was handmade by her grandmother. It was of white silk peau 'd ange in the waltz length, edged in satin ribbon and attached to a bandeau headpiece of silk flowers, satin streamers and lace. She carried a bouquet of white rosebuds, lavender and white daisies, tiger lilies, miniature pink carnations, purple statice and baby's breath with narrow white satin streamers. The bride wore pearls, a gift from the groom and the groom's mother's garter. Miss Cathy Rae Sheppard was her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sonja Peed of Raleigh, JoJo Worsley and Linda Ingalls of Washington. The atten dants wore lavender skirts of broadcloth in the formal length. Their blouses were white tucked linen trimmed with lace and satin ribbon featuring square neckline and gathered elbow length sleeves. They carried a single white long stemmed rosebud with greenery and baby's breath tied with pink satin ribbon. Flower girl was Laura Beth Dunn of Chocowinity, cousin of the bride. Ringbearer was Michael Lee Bowder also of Chocowinity. Best man was Donald Howard of Washington. Ushers were Mark Howard of Alexandria, Virginia, Timothy Ryan of Boston, Mass. and Bobby Davis of Greensboro. The mother of the bride wore a gray summer sweater and linen knee length skirt. The groom's mother wore a beige knit sweater and pleated knee length skirt. The wedding was directed by Becky Deans of Chocowinity. The bride is a graduate of Beaufort Community College in Washington. She has an AA in General Education and an AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology. The groom is a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville and has a BS in Industrial Technology. He is employed with Milliken and Company in Red Springs. A reception followed the ceremony in the social hall of the church. Hostesses were Sophie Mitchell, Maggie Barwick, Jackie Dixon, Lucille McRoy, Jane Worseley and Suzanne Buchanan of Washington and Lori Ann Brickhouse of Norfolk, Virginia. The rehearsal dinner was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Howard. Members of the wedding party and out of town guests en joyed a pig picking at poolside. After a wedding trip to Bermuda the couple will reside in Raeford. Birthday Brandy Hardin Brandy Hardin celebrated her birthday July 7 with a party, given by her father. Tommy Hardin, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Hardin of Raeford. Guests were served cake, ice cream, chicken crackers with cheese and soft drinks. Games were played after refreshments. Those attending were Clint Har din, Calvin Hardin, Sheila Neely from Lumberton, Peggy, Mandy and Jenny Hardin of Michigan, Mike, Beth and Cheryl Gray, Lisa and Stacey Deaven from Holden's Beach, N.C. and Pam Pollar from Virginia. Peggy Dorttn Bailey Bailey-Con nell Mrs. Katherine L. Bailey, of Wins ton- Salem, announces the engagement of her daughter, Peggy Doreen, to William Thomas Connell, of Raeford. The prospec tive groom is the son of Mrs. Amanda Connell and the late Charlie Connell of Raeford. Miss Bailey is also the daughter of the late Thomas E. Bailey. The bride-elect attended Guilford College and is employed by Integon Corporation. Connell is a graduate of Hoke County High School and is employed by Just Auto Insurance Agency. The couple has selected September 1 as a wedding date. The ceremony will be performed at Crews United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Scott Bowers and Brandon recently returned from Boerne, Texas where they visited his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Bowers. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers also stopped in Loui siana on the way back to visit other relatives. Barry Ellis of Woodbridge, N.J. spent last weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ellis and family. Mr. and Mrs. Huie Long of Charlotte spent Sunday with his sister Mrs. George Freeman and Mrs. A.J. Freeman. Social Reporter, 875-4562 Brenda Ross, Russell McAllister married in Freedom Chapel Church Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church was the setting June 24, at 5:30 p.m. for the marriage of Brenda Ross and Russell Maurice McAllister. The Reverend C.L. Lyons officiated at the double ring ceremony. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Mallie W. Ross of Raeford. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Russell McAllister Jr. of Raeford. . The church was decorated with a large arched candelabra and two spiral candelabra with white tapers. Arrangements of mixed flowers in peach, mint and white were also used. The kneeling bench was decorated with greenery. Family pews were marked with hurricane globes. Organist was Miss Venus McLaurin. Soloist, Daryl McAllister, sang "We've Only Just Begun", "You And I", and "The Lord's Prayer". . Candles were lit by Jamie Ross and Tony McLaurin. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin gown with Alencon and venice lace. The illusion yoke gave an off shoulder effect to the drop back waist bodice. The sleeves came to a point at the hand. The gathered skirt, edged with a border of Alencon lace and decorated with applique motifs of lace fell into a chapel length train. A full length veil of bridal illusion appliqued with lace was attached to a bridal hat covered with Alencon lace and seed pearls. The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white roses, spring rye fern and babies' breath. Mrs. Gladys Carpenter, sister of the bride served as matron of honor. Maid of honor was Miss Sharon Thompson. Bridesmaids were Miss Sonya Ross, Miss Bar bara Johnson, Miss June McAllister, Miss Rosland Graham, Mrs. Dawn Quick and Mrs. Rosies Stephens. Junior bridesmaid was Tisha Stewart. The honor attendants wore gowns of mint green taffeta with sweetheart ruffled neckline and capped ruffled sleeves. The fitted bodice dropped at the waist form ing a point in the front and back. A full gathered skirt completed the gown. They wore small mint green hats covered with bridal illusion and seed pearls. A small veil was attached to the hat with a bow They wore mint lace gloves and carried peach and mint carnations in arm bouquets tied with mint rib bons. The other attendants wore ensembles like that of the honor at tendants in peach. Flower girl was Renata Sim mons. Ringbearer was Perry Leg gett. The groom wore a white tuxedo, white ascot and white cummer bund. Best man was Geno McAllister, brother of the groom. Ushers were Pierre McAllister, brother of the groom, Jamie Ross, brother of the bride, James Quick, Tony McLaurin, Thomas Farmer, Beat ty Thompson and Kenneth Morris. Junior usher was Rodney Johnson, nephew of the bride. The groomsmen wore white tuxedos with white bow ties. The mother of the bride wore a mauve chiffon gown featuring a round neckline and full length sleeves. A full flowing skirt com ? ? "?** 4 ? '1 Mrs. Russell Maurice McAllister pleted the gown. The mother of the groom wore a pink crepe full length gown featuring a round neckline and long sleeves. Seed pearls covered the bodice. Mrs. Mary Purcell directed the wedding. The bride is Area Sales Manager for Belk in Lumberton. The groom is a Sergeant with the U.S. Army, stationed" at Bamburg, Germany. After a wedding trip the couple will make their home in Fayet teville. RECEPTION A reception, hosted by the bride's parents was given at the Freedom Chapel Church fellowship hall. Mrs. Mary Purcell greeted guests. A centerpiece of peach and mint flowers was used on the table with the four tier wed ding cake and running fountain. Mrs. Retha Long served cake. The bride's book was kept by Misses Cosandra and Wanda Stephens. Others assisting were Mrs. Blanche Farmer and Christine Breeden. REHEARSAL DINNER A cook out was hosted by the groom's parents at the home of Mrs. Gladys Carpenter, sister of the bride. The bridal party, friends of the families and out of town guests were invited. Gifts were presented to the attendants at this time. BRIDESMAIDS' LUNCHEON The bridesmaid's luncheon was held June 24 at 1 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Gladys Carpenter. Co hostess was Miss Deborah F. Davis. Upon arrival, the bride was presented a bud vase of peach miniature carnations that was used as a centerpiece on the table. A Quaker lace cloth covered the table. Each setting was placed with Quaker lace napkins held with silver napkin rings. Guests were served a melon dish for an ap petizer. The meal included chicken salad, broccoli with cheese sauce, salad and rolls. Chocolate dream was served as dessert. The bride elect was remembered with a place setting of stainless in her chosen pattern from the hostesses. PRE NUPTIAL PARTY A floating shower given by Miss Sharon Thompson on June 14. The bride elect was given gifts for the kitchen and bath. Wood-Renalter wedding rehearsal dinner on June 29 The rehearsal dinner for the Wood-Ronalter wedding was omit ted by error last week. Mr. and Mrs. George Wood, parents of the groom hosted a din ner, Friday evening, June 29 at The Peddler Steak House in Southern Pines. Guests included the wedding party and friends and relatives from out-of-town. Births Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith of Raeford, announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Suzanne on June Mr. and Mrs. Steven Charles Har rison of Raeford, announce the birth of a son, Joshua Ryan, on June 27. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wayne Gard ner of Raeford, announce the birth of a daughter, Amy Lynn, on June Mr. and Mrs. Marion Weaver Pat terson announce the birth of a daughter, Kimberly Marie on June 23. Kimberly joins her brother Marion Joseph. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Patterson of Raeford and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parker of Fayetteville.
