Harrison-Lindsay vows exchanged
in First Baptist Church June 30

Nancy Bray Lindsay and Joe Bill
Harrison were married on Satur
day, June 30, at half past seven
o'clock in the evening at First Bap
tist Church in Raeford. Reverend
Billy Beaver officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Claude Bernard Bray and the
late Mr. Bray of Raeford. The
bride, a graduate of Peace College
in Raleigh, is a legal secretary in
Dallas, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Delaney Boyd Harrison of
Hinton, Oklahoma. He is a
graduate of Southwestern State
University and University of
Oklahoma School of Law. He is a
partner in the Gardere & Wynne
law firm in Dallas, Texas.
The sanctuary was highlighted
with a large arrangement of pink
snapdragons, white and pink
bridal roses, white astromeria
lilies, pink and white carnations
and gypsophilia. The altar was
decorated with two fifteen-branch
and two seven-branch candelabra
entwined with garland. Two nine
branch candelabra with floral bou
quets of lavender freesia, pink and
white carnations, snapdragons and
astromeria lilies flanked the bride
and groom as they exchanged
vows. An assortment of ferns was
used to complement the altar area
and the vestibule of the church.
Elga Langdon of Raeford was
organist, and Lester Southern of
Raeford and Chapel Hill was
soloist. He sang "One Hand, One
Heart" from West Side Story as
the ceremony commenced.

"That's the Way" was presented
to solemnize the exchanging of
rings; and as the couple faced each
other on the kneeling bench to
observe the wedding prayer, Mr.
Southern sang "The Lord's
Prayer." Lighting of the unity can
dle by the bride and groom com
pleted the ceremony. The tradi
tional processional and recessional
were used.
The bride wore a Bianchi gown
of white chiffon with full Bishop
sleeves. The cuffs and the Vic
torian neckline with sheer yoke
were trimmed with silk Venice lace
appliques. The bodice, with a bas
que waistline, was embellished
with silk, lily-of-the-valley Venice
lace. The hemline of the full,
gathered skirt fell into a court
length matching veil of imported
illusion was enhanced with appli
ques of silk Venice lace, seed pearls
and sequins and was attached to a
headband of like appliques and
silk lilies of the valley. The bride
carried a cascading bouquet of
white cattelya orchids, white bridal
roses, pomosa fern and freesia.
The mother of the bride wore a
floor-length gown of light blue
summer crepe. The jacket, with
full sleeves and back buttons, was
accented with matching em
broidered lace and satin sash. The
groom's mother wore a street
length dress of light blue crepe
fashioned with a high neckline and
three-quarter-length sleeves. They
each had a white cattelya orchid
corsage with white ribbons. The
parents' pews were designated by
hurricane lamps with small floral
arrangements.
Miss Sallie Bray of Chapel Hill,
sister of the bride, was maid of
honor. Mrs. Marie Rouse of Rich
mond, Virginia, and Mrs. Patsy
Hawkes of Raeford, also sisters of
the bride, were bridesmaids. The
junior bridesmaid was the bride s
niece, Miss Kimberly Rouse of
Richmond. The wore floor-length
gowns of orchid taffeta, featuring
Victorian necklines with sheer
yokes and full elbow-length
sleeves. The matching hats were
accented with strands of white
pearls and orchid illusion veils.
Their arm bouquets consisted of
pink snapdragons, lavender
freesia, fern and pink and lavender
streamers.
Best man was the groom s son,
Brett Harrison, of Dallas. Ushers
were Phil Rouse of Richmond,
Virginia, and Tim Hawks of
Raeford, both brothers-in-law of
the bride. The groom and his
groomsmen wore black Cardm
tuxedos and pink-rosebud bouton
nieres.
The guest registrar was Mrs.
Younger Snead Jr., of Raeford.
Reunion planned
A Hoke County family that has
traced its roots to the days before
the Civil War will be having its
18th annual reunion on Sunday,
August 4.
The McCormick Reunion, to be
held at the Bowmore Civic Center,
will be hosted this year by James
McCormick and will last from 1-5
p.m.

In a double ring ceremony
Saturday afternoon July 14,
Theresa Anne Riley of Aberdeen
and John Robert Boyle II of
Hamlet were united in marriage at
Shiloh Presbyterian Church in
Raeford.
The bride's grandparents are
James and Edith Nixon of Aber
deen. She is a graduate of Hoke
County High School.
The groom is the son of John
Boyle of Hamlet and the late Mrs.
Boyle. He graduated from Rich
mond Senior High School and is
now serving in the U.S. Army sta
tioned in Fairbanks, Alaska where
the couple will live for 2 Yi years.
Mrs. Boyle will be attending the
University of Alaska.
The Rev. W.K. Fitch Jr. of
ficiated for the three o'clock wed
ding.
Musical selections were played
by Mrs. Janice Jackson, organist
from Raeford, while Miss Mitzi
Smith of Aberdeen sang, "O Pro
mise Me," "I Love You Truly"
and "The Wedding Prayer."
The bride wore a traditional
gown of voile and taffeta with
sweetheart neckline. The elbow
length sleeves of voile were worn
off-the shoulder. Voile overlaid
the matte taffeta skirt which ex
tended into a chapel length train.
She wore a wreath of white flowers
and ivy attached to a fingertip veil
of illusion and carried a cascade
bouquet of red and white roses,
white carnations, white touch-me
nots and ivy.
Miss Catherine Evans of
Raeford was maid of honor. Her
imperial plum matte taffeta gown
was similar to the bride's gown and
she carried a long stemmed white

RECEPTION
The bride's family honored the
couple with a wedding reception in
the fellowship hall of the church.
The bride's table was decorated
with mixed spring flowers in the
bride's colors.
After cutting the traditional first
slice of cake, the couple greeted
their friends and relatives.

deen presided at the bridal register.
The three-tier wedding cake was
decorated with raspberry roses.
The cake was cut and served by the
bride's aunt, Peggie McDiarmid of
Raeford. Assisting at the reception
were Judy Harris of Aberdeen,
Kim Bullock and Susan Manning,
both of Raeford.
REHEARSAL DINNER
A rehearsal dinner was hosted
by the parents of the groom
following the rehearsal.

Neighbors and church friends
gave a shower honoring the bride
elect on June 11 at the home of
Mrs. Ruth Wilkerson of Aberdeen
with Mrs. Mary Seaford and Mrs.
Cathy Huff as co-hostesses.
On June 21 a shower was held in
Hamlet honoring the bride-elect at
the home of Mrs. Bernice Lisk,
aunt of the groom.
On June 27 Miss Cathy Evans
and Mrs. Tammie Ellis entertained
Miss Riley at the Ellis home.
Jaycee Women visit rest home
Raeford Deer Track was the
location for a party held by the
Raeford Jaycee Women on Satur
day night, July 21st.
Special guests for the occasion
were the Raeford Jaycees.
Everyone enjoyed an evening of
swimming and dancing along with
delicious hors d'ocuvres that in
cluded chicken, cheeses, chips and
dip.
Music was provided by Sammy
Crowder of Raeford and a good
time was had by all.
