Traffic deaths predicted to increase Labor Day weekend The NX. Stat* Motor Club is projecting a holiday traffic death Id persons >? the 78-hour Labor Day Weekend which begins Friday, August 31 at 6 p.m. and ends Monday, September 3 at 12 midnight. The 19#4 predktioa compares with a total of 14 deaths and 798 injuries during the 1983 Labor Day holiday. ? "Labor Day it the holiday which ends the summer vacation season and signals the return to normal routines for families, which school for the youngsters and con centrated work for the parents," Dr. John O. Frazier, III, president of the statewide motor club stated. Frazier says the Labor Day weekend statistically, is the third most deadly weekend of the seven holidays during the year, exceeded only by Thanksgiving and Christmas. 7T* ? There are many dementi that af fect road accidents; weather condi tions, drivers inattentiveness, mechanical defects of the car and alcohol, but the most important element is speed. According to Fnuder, there will be>exceptions to the rule but by and large, speeding due to the impatience of the driver attempting to arrive at hi* destina tion, and his inadvertence of how fait he is going, is the number one cause of interstate accidents. "With speed continuing to creep up, andplaying a leading roll in die higher death toll, it is vitally important that each driver obey the 5S mph speed limit," Frazier stated. "As speed increases, fewA and fewer drivers are able to han dle a car safely and stop within the distance available," he continued . Deaths & Funerals WflmerO. Hendrix Wihncr Oscar Hcndrix, 75, died Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held at 3 pan on Sunday by Revs. William Gregg and Rev. Russell Knoles at Sandy Grove Methodist Church. Burial was in the Church cemetery. Survivors are two sons: John ' Robert Hendrix of Red Springs and Donald Hendrix of Raeford; two brothers: Brown Hendrix and Dewey Hendrix both of Raeford and one grandchild. The family was assisted by Crumpler Funeral Home. Allison Harris Allison Lloyd Harris, S9, died Wednesday morning in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayet teville. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel by Ted Stephens and Don Raper. Burial was in Marcus Church Cemetery in Richmond County. Survivors are three 'brothers: Ken neth Harris of Whiteville, Bill Har ris of Fayetteville and Ted Harris of Fayetteville; two sisters: Mrs. Eunice Faulkner of Hope Mills and Mrs. Odell Ray of Route 4, Raeford. The family was assisted by Crumpler Funeral Home. Col. William L. Seals A memorial service was held for Col. William Lester Seals, retired, on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Shiloh Presbyterian Curch. Seals, who was born in Wagram and lived in Hoke County much of his life, died in Austin, Texas on August 18. He would have been 64 on August 21. The memorial service was con ducted by George Chaney. He was assisted by Sam Morris. Seals is survived by his wife Bet ty B. Seals of Austin and by seven . children: William L. Seals Jr., Susan Seals Keller, Dr. David L. Seals, Ann M. Seals, Phillip K. Seals, all of Austin, John R. Seals of Lawton, Oklahoma and Paul A. Seals of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; a sister: Lois Col lins of Raeford; two brothers L.B. Seals of Raeford and Dr. Hilton Seals of Ashville. Ambrose Haynes Funeral Services for Ambrose Haynes, 70, were held Sunday August 26 at 3 p.m. from Center Grove Baptist Church. Rev. T.M. McDonald of ficiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Haynes died on Tuesday August 21. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Aggie Nora Wade Haynes; his lov ing daughters: McLorene Haynes, Mrs. Luvie Gillespie, Mrs. Juanite McLean, Mrs. Delois Godwin, Mrs. Arnell Farmer, Miss Sheila Haynes, Mrs. Ernestine McNeill, Mrs. Bobbie Doby; Sons: Thomas Bailey, Alphonso Haynes, and Johnny Bratcher; three sisters: Mrs. Cenell Lane, Mrs. Mildred Custalow and Mrs. Partricia Stubbs; thrity-two grandchildren, 14 great-grandcildren, seven sisters-in-law, four-brothers-in law, three daughters-in-law, four sons-in-law, neices and nephews. Buie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Paal McNeill Funeral Services for Paul McNeill Jr., 36, will be held Thurs day at 4:30 p.m. from McCormick Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. D. Caldwell will be officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. His survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Addie M. McNeill of the home; Miss Barbara McNeill of the home; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Maynor of Raeford; two brothers, Larry D. McNeill of Raeford and WilUe H. McNeill of Southern Pines. Funeral services for Ernest All mood, 93, who died Monday AugMt 20 in Pennsylvania, were held Sunday at 4 p.m. from Buie , Funeral Home Chapel. Bute Funeral Home was in chafge. Special Bonus!
