Opinions Letters To The Editor Congressional road is paved with gold Dear editor: Congressmen are always being accused of voting in favor of what's good for right now, with no regard for what's going to happen down the road. I have discovered some evidence that this is not always true. Congressmen, when it comes to Congressmen, have looked far down the road and made sure it's paved all the way. There are now about 900 living former members of Congress, and they are rather, well provided for. In many cases, according to a study made by the National Tax payers Union, their yearly Con gressional pensions are far greater than the yearly salaries they got while they were in office. When it's remembered that those handsome pensions were voted by the Congressmen themselves, you have to discard the notion that Congressmen don't look far down the road. Apd when you stop to think Congressmen out of office are costing us more than they did when they were in office, you have to scratch your head and wonder if it's financially wise to ever vote against any of them. Yours faithfully, J. A. 7-? . I guess Ole.Fre.ci hasrit. hesrd <iboii\AV\e. C/TTprograrA. Letters Policy Letters to the editor are encouraged and welcomed. That's what a two-year attitude study of the health habits of more than 5,000 men and women found. Maurice Mittelmark, assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, who con ducted the study, said he believes the women's perception represents "reality." For example, more than half the women who considered themselves overweight said they changed their diets and were eating less. For about one in three overweight men said he had done the same. "My conclusion," Mittlemark told the Health Insurance Associa tion of America, "is that women are trying harder than men; whether or not they are successful, we simply do not know."
