Fulford said that approximately 1100 veterans, wives and children were in attendance. It is always good to talk to anyone about a reunion, because most times it has been a happy oc casion and you hear about the good old days and how the people have changed in looks. Can't wait until November for the old Btry. "F" reunion. ? ? ? Joe Dupree and his wife, Helen, now of Raleigh, stopped by the house last Thursday afternoon. The Judge had been by Fayetteville and had visited in Raeford before stopping. Helen went by the school to renew old acquaintances. They were in good spirits and both Mid that retirement was just what they needed. It was good talking to them and I agree that retirement is Tine. ? * ? Last week 1 received the follow ing letter and it is being run in this column without the knowledge of the writer of the letter. Hope she doesn't mind. Greetings, In the spring I wrote to you ask ing that you become involved with a reactivated Hoke County Historical Association. This week I have learned that in terested, caring people are needed to help preserve the UCB/Bank of Raeford Building. This fine struc ture, built in 1911, is now empty. United Carolina Bank would give this building to a bona fide non profit organization if they could find uses for it. No such organiza tion has asked for the building. An offer has been received to buy it, however, there is a question that the use may not be in the best in terest of the community. I'm hoping the members of the Hoke Historical Association can find ways to maintain the integrity of this lovely old buildin|. There are folks who want to get to work at once. I am asking that you come to a meeting Thursday evening (Sept. 6) at 8 p.m. in the History Room of the Hoke Library. Bring your good ideas. Wc will think and talk. See you then. Sincerely, Kay Thomas I think that Kay has come up with a project that a Historical Association could make work. If you are interested in Hoke history, be at this meeting. Now if you are in the group that has made an offer for the building, I believe that most folks would like to hear your side of the question. So be at the meeting if you are pro or con.
