Personals Mrs. Charlotta King, Mrs. Shirley Gibson and Mrs. Marguerite Thomas were guests of Mrs. Iris Davis when she entertained with a luncheon at her home on Waters Edge Drive in Fayetteville on Thursday. Mrs. Ann Upchurch entertained at the Edinborough Restaurant on Friday in honor of her sisters. Thirty friends and neighbors gathered to visit with Mrs. Laura Thomas and Miss Elizabeth Hoyle from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Shower honors | Miss Cox !? The Community United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall was the site of a shower for Miss Barbra Cox on Friday evening. Thirty-five guests brought a varie ty of gifts for Miss Cox who will marry Harry Walters, Jr. on Oc tober 20. Hostesses were Mrs. O. Lee Bowen, Mrs. Connie Ellis, Mrs. Jimmie Fulk, Mrs. Theresa Moscr, Mrs. Vera Rogers, Mrs. Eileen Strickland. Mrs. Venetia Walters, Mrs. Cheryl Walters and Mrs. Tammy Walters. Guests were served cake squares, nuts, mints, a cheese ball and punch. Miss Jackson honor guest at shower Karen Jackson, September 23 bride-elect of Michael Laviner was honored with a bridal shower September 9 at the home of Mrs. Brent Hardin. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Elwood Townsend and Mrs. Ken Gardener. Miss Jackson was presented a corsage of daisies upon arrival. Approximately 23 guests were served cake, nuts, mints and punch. Baby shower is given for Mrs. Howell Mrs. Tom Howell was honored with a baby shower on Friday evening, September 7 at the home of Mrs. Charlotta Howell on Donaldson Avenue. Mrs. Ann Pate was co-hostess for the occa sion. Upon arrival, the honoree was presented a corsage of white chrysanthemums. Guests were in vited into the living room where Mrs. Tom Howell received gifts. Refreshments were served from the dining room table which was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a silk arrangement of flowers. Mrs. W.L. Howell Jr. served punch and guests helped themselves to an assortment of party foods. Out-of-town guests were: Mrs. Lloyd Hamlet of Asheboro, mother of the honoree, Mrs. Mary Boling of Randleman, grand mother of the honoree, Miss Rebecca Howell of Ellerbe and Miss Linda Norden of Charlotte. Approximately 50 guests called between the hours of 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Social News Call 875-2121 Lermer-Floyd nuptials spoken in Rose Hill church Sept. 2 Sharon Elaine Floyd of Rose Hill became the bride of Stephen Carl Lermer of El Paso, Texas in a double ring ceremony Sunday, September 2 at four o'clock in the afternoon at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. The Reverend Leonard Doucette officiated, assisted by the Rev. John White. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Earl Floyd of Rose Hill. She is a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Her B.A. degree is in Sociology with emphasis in the Criminal Justice field. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Carl Lermer, of Asheville. He is a 1980 graduate of Auburn Universi ty and is a Senior Project Engineer for Surgikos, a Johnson and Johnson Company in El Paso, Texas. The church altar was flanked by four palms and box wood greens with two fifteen-branch brass candelabras. Tree candelabras were used on each side of the altar. There were a double kneeling bench and two arrangements of white mini carnations, mums, statice and baby's breath at the altar. Family pews were marked with greens and white satin bows. Wedding music was provided by Mrs. Bizzell Johnson, organist, and pianist, Mrs. James Wynne. Soloists were Mrs. Dean Whaley and Carroll Buckner. Selections in cluded "The Wedding Song", "You and I" and "The Wedding Prayer." Mrs. Johnson rang the chimes just prior to the proces sional. Escorted to the altar by her father and given irt marriage by her parents, the bride wore a wedding gown of white quiana designed with an empire waist and a chapel train. The gown featured Venice lace embroidered with pearls on the neckline, bodice and long tapered sleeves. Her chapel veil of illusion, sprinkled with Venice lace motifs, fell from a Camelot cap, and she carried a bouquet of white bridal roses and Fuji mums. Miss Wendy Floyd, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. She wore a gown of blue organza which was styled with ruffled-off the-shoulder neckline, a fitted bodice and a natural waistline. They wore gowns and hats identical to those of' the bride's honor atten dant and carried nosegays of mix ed summer flowers. Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Cari Abatiello, Miss Lisa Moore, Miss Melissa Moore, Miss Melissa Morgan, Miss Tracy Tesh and Miss Linda Williams, Alpha Delta Pi sorority sisters. They wore short dresses of pastel colors and pink carnation corsages. The bridegroom chose as his best man, his father, Max Carl Lermer, of Asheville. Groomsmen were Mike Flemming of Eden; Mario Pino of Forest Hills, New York; Tom Estep of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and Sid Stanley, cousin of the bride, of Raleigh. The mother of the bride, Mrs. Billy Floyd, wore a formal raspberry crepe gown. The gown featured a V-neckline, fitted bodice and long fitted sleeves. The pleated skirt fell from an empire waistline with a satin cummer bund. Her gown was accented with a corsage of pink roses. Mrs. Max Lermer, mother of the groom, wore a cream floor length gown of satin peau-de-soie and lace. The bodice front and back gathered into a lace yoke with a round neckline. Mrs. Jim Baucom of Gastonia and Terri McKoy of Charlotte, cousins of the bride, presided at the registries in the two vestibules of the church. WEDDING RECEPTION Immediately following the ceremony the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Floyd, enter tained the wedding party and wed ding guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall. Greeting guests at the door were Mr. and Mrs. Loney Lanier of Rose Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Floyd, aunt and uncle of the bride, of Goldsboro. Carolyn Briggs of Rocky Mount, was hostess-at large. The bride's table was covered with a floor length white lace cloth and centered with a five-branched candelabra and mixed summer flowers. Melanie Carawan of Greensboro poured punch from a silver bowl. The five-tier wedding cake was served by Mrs. Steve English of Teachey and Lisa Moore of Fuquay-Varina.
