Arts and crafts on tap for Malcolm Blue days The Malcolm Blue Historic Crafts and Skills Festival will take place Sept. 28-30. The festival is always planned for the last full weekend in September. It is held at the Malcolm Blue Farm on Route 5 between Aberdeen and Southern Pines. The Malcolm Blue Farm is a restoration project of The Malcolm Blue Historical Society and The Malcolm Blue Junior Historians. The festival is the ma jor fund-raiser for both organiza tions. There will be several special pro jects for the 1984 Festival: The Junior Historians always demonstrate 1800s farm skills and have a country store. At the coun try store they sell craft items they make or that are donated, also canned foods such as pickles and jellies. This year they will present a play "Wake the Dead." It was written by Veta Gorman and Sybil d'Am brosi especially for the Junior Historians. It depicts Malcolm Blue and his wife returning to their farm during the festival and Aber deen history is included. Mrs. Gor man will help direct the play. The Junior Historians will make their costumes, stage props and sound effects. They will also pro vide old-fashioned games for the children. The N.C. Alcohol Law Enforce ment Division will set up a liquor still and demonstrate the pro cedure of making homemade whiskey. However, no liquor will be made at the farm. Rick Amick of the Greensboro office will set up the display. Garrett Screws of Pittsboro and members of The Boy Scout Order of the Arrow from Moore, Chatham and Lee counties will demonstrate Indian dances. The festival weekend is full of | fun and entertainment. Music and dancing will be featured everyday from opening to closing. The yearly barbecue will take place Saturday from 6-8 p.m., square dancing Saturday evening, games, storytelling and farm animals will round out a fun day at the farm.
