Tel. 175-13*5 Pacifiers made in USA are safer Nitrosamines are cancer-producing chemicals pro duced during the manufacture of some rubber products. Because of relatively high concentrations in the rubber nipples of feeding bottles and pacifiers, the FDA has set standards to limit the danger. This action already has brought down the nitrosamine content to safe levels. Because many pacifiers are imported, however, control is more difficult. For this reason, the latex brand of American-made pacifiers is a much safer buy. Purchase pharmacy products where you can "ask a pharmacist." We're on the alert for your good health. KAVoao, n. c Dorcas Hostetler makes debut Miss Dorcas Hostetler, escorted by her father, Charles Hostetler, made her debut at the annual Terp sichorean Club Debutante Ball on September 7. Two hundred and seven young women, representing communities across the state, were presented. Miss Hostetler is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hostetler of Raeford. She is now a sophomore at Meredith College in Raleigh. The traditional dances were led by Miss Meg Joyner of Raleigh. Dorcas was an assistant leader. She says that the rehearsals were especially fun because "my daddy knew almost all the debs' fathers." Mrs. Anne Hostetler thinks the mothers "had as much fun as the girls." Her sister, Mrs. Gwen Senior of Chapel Hill was there for the presentation of her daughter, Sue. Two other debs' mothers are Raeford natives. Mrs. Alice Matheson Stanback of Salisbury was there with her daughter, Molly Brooks. Mrs. Sarah Cole Jordan's daughter, Janie, represented Mt. Gilead. Dorcas wore a white heirloom dress which was decorated with lace and seed pearls. She also wore the traditional debutante stole monogrammed by her friend and former deb, Miss Anna Jordan. She carried red roses. Special guests were Dorcas' brothers, Anderson and Henry, who attended with their wives. Her aunts, Mrs. Alber Rawls and Mr. Royster Chamblee of Raleigh, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Thompson of Clarksville, Va., joined the Hostetlers for this festive occasion. Dorcas Hostetler Melody Williamson studying at NC School of the Arts Melody Williamson of Raeford has begun her studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts. She attended the school's summer ses sion and, after auditions, was ac cepted into the School of Drama's Studio 1, Pre-Professional Actor Training Program. Melody is the daughter of Rita R. Williamson and Harry William son of Raeford. She is a 1984 graduate of Hoke High where she was very actively involved with programs within the arts. Melody's impressions from her study are "physically exhausting," "lots of improvs," "very intense." Her days were filled with acting classes, speech drills, and movement work (dance, mime and physical conditioning). Studio 1 courses provide oppor tunities for technical preparation and training which will enlarge ex perience and concepts. Enrollment is reserved for twenty North Carolina residents. At the end of Studio 1 students must again audi tion, competing for places in the Professional Actor Training Pro gram. Raeford people who have recognized Melody's talent and en couraged her are very excited by this opportunity. The summer work and her acceptance into Studio 1 are fine achievements.
