The N.C. School of Science and
Mathematics, which opened in
1980, is a public residential school
serving academically gifted 11th
and 12th grade students with a
special interest and potential in
math and science. The coeduca
tional school charges no tuition or
room and board fees. About 400
students attend the school,
representing 85 North Carolina
counties.

sponsored OPEN HOUSE on
Tuesday, October 16.
Parents and friends were in
spired by entertainment furnished
by the McLauchlin Chorus.
Plaques of recognition were
presented by the school to Irma
Hedgpeth for her contributions to
the school and to Joyce Edwards,
the J.W. McLauchlin "Teacher of
the Year."
The faculty was presented a
"welcome back gift" from the
P.T.A.
Over 200 friends and parents
visited the classrooms, met the
teachers and enjoyed
refreshments.
The J.W. McLauchlin staff is
looking forward to more parent
and friend involvement during the
school year.

Wanda Ingram was selected as the
teacher of the year at South Hoke
Elementary School for the current
school year. She Is a graduate of
Pembroke State University where
she received a BS degree In
Business Education and a MaEd in
Library Science. Mrs. Ingram is
the school librarian. She lives in
Raeford.
Scurlock teacher

State University and teaches third
grade. She lives in Pembroke.
