The Rockfish 4-H Club held
their first organizational meeting
of the new year in the home of club
director Jimmy Culp recently.
New officers for the year were

The programs for the coining
year were planned and the
meetings will be the third Tuesday
of each month at 7:00 p.m.

laws. The Wildlife Commission -
Hunting safety and laws and Pro
tection of Wildlife, Emergency
Medical Service - Emergency
medical treatment, Narcotics
Agency - Drugs and Drug Abuse,
Fire Department - Fire Prevention
in the home. There will also be a
program on Child Abuse, safety in
the home and Civil Defense.

married Saturday October 20 at
the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church
in Charlotte. The Rev. Levi
Brown, pastor, and the Rev. Peter
Stephen, the groom's father,
shared in conducting the
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James Walter McRae of
Raeford. She graduated from
Hoke County High School in 1975
and earned a diploma in Practical
Nursing from Sandhills Communi
ty College. She is a graduate of

Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in

The groom is the son of Rev.
and Mrs. Peter Stephen of
Tuckahoe, New York. He attended
the public schools of St. Croix,
U.S. Virgin Islands and received a
B.S. degree in Regional Planning
at Morris Brown College in Atlan
ta, Georgia. He is a graduate of
Cornell University in Ithaca, New
York where he received a Master
degree in Regional Planning. His
present employment is with the
New York State Department of
Transportation, Civil Engineer
Planning Commission.

was Cynthia Murchison of
Raeford. Bridesmaids were
Jeanette Jones of Raeford and An
nita Stephen of Brooklyn, New
York. Miss Sherita McRae of
Raeford served as flower girl.
Best man was Joseph Stephen of
Atlanta, Georgia. Ushers were Leo
McRae of Raeford and Larry
McRae of Rocky Mount. Master
Darnell Ray served as ring bearer.
A reception dinner was held at
the Gethsemane A.M.E. Zion
Church's fellowship hall in
Charlotte.
The couple are taking a wedding
trip to Europe before residing in
Albany, New York.

The Raeford Woman's Club is
sponsoring a golf tournament
Saturday, October 27 and Sunday,
October 28 at the Arabia Golf
Course. A $30 entry fee, the cost
for both days, includes green fee,
riding cart, gifts, and refreshments
for each participant.
The club hopes the event will be
supported well by the public
because all profits will be used to
benefit community needs.
A special thanks is extended to
several students at Upchurch and
at Hoke High who helped make
posters to publicize this event.

Noel Jones, (Homecoming Queen
for 1984-85), made three attractive
posters.
From Upchurch, Angelina
Taylor, Denise Evans, Sabrina
Holt, Thomas Murray, Markus
Dennis, Earl Smith, and several
others made several posters.
The Upchurch students are from
Mrs. Eloise Carter's art classes. A
special "thank you" is also extend
ed to her for allowing her students
to work on this project.
A mock tournament will be held
Wednesday, October 24 for all
club members to help them prepare
for Saturday's event.
Mr. and Mrs. Blackman Tew
Tews celebrate 50th
On Sunday, October 14, the
children of Mr. and Mrs.
Blackman Tew honored their
parents on the occasion of their
50th wedding anniversary. A
reception was held in the Beulah
United Methodist Church
Fellowship Hall. The Tew's
children are Mr. and Mrs. John D.
Tew of Florida, Johnny B. Tew of
Aberdeen and Jerry Tew of
Raeford.
The food table was decorated
with gold candelabra and yellow
and white carnations. There was a
three-tiered anniversary cake,
decorated with gold roses and
candles. Several types of finger
foods and punch were served. The
reception was catered by Mrs.
Coleman Crumpler.
Many friends and relatives came
to celebrate and guests were
greeted by Mrs. Jessie Honeycutt
who stood at the Guest Register.
Cake was served by Mrs. Paul
Butler, and punch was poured by
Mrs. Carl Butler. Mrs. Louis
Worley attended the gift table and
Mrs. Olivia Butler took pictures.
Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Williams said
goodbyes at the door.
"Quick meals' workshop on tap
On October 29 a program entitl
ed "Quick Meals For Busy
Homemakers"will be presented by
Hoke County Agricultural Exten
sion Service, in cooperation with
the Raeford Junior Woman's
Club. The workshop will be held at
7 p.m. in the Lester Building on
South Magnolia Street.
A demonstration on preparing
several quick dishes will be given
by Alice Pettitt, Home Economics
Extension Agent. Information on
shopping tips, meal preparation,
freezing dishes, using mixes and
other helpful hints will also be
given.
The workshop is open to the
public and there is no charge. In
terested persons may register for
the workshop by calling 875-2162
between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Chill pickles before serving. This
helps crisp them and enhances the
flavor.
