St. Elizabeth
celebrates
By Sr. Patricia McCoiloch
On Monday, November 19,
parishioners of St. Elizabeth of
Hungary Catholic Church will
celebrate their 25th Anniversary.
Joseph F. Gossman, Bishop of
the Raleigh Diocese, will be the
main celebrant at a 7 p.m. mass.
Joining with the parishioners at the
service will be clergy, laity, and
sisters of the Fayetteville Deanery
and ministers of Raeford.
In 1958, four women from
Yonkers, New York donated the
funds for building a chapel in
North Carolina. ,
Their employer, Walter J.
Black, desired to build a church in
the South in memory Of his dearly
beloved mother and have it called
St. Elizabeth after her.
However, he died before he
could fulfill his dream; therefore,
the women saw it only right to
donate the church to perpetuate his
memory.
