Miss Wood honored at luncheon
On Saturday, November 17,
Miss Pam Wood was the honoree
at a bridal luncheon at the home of
Mrs. Betty Knox. Other hostesses
were Mrs. Johnnie Bell McPhaul
and Mrs. Sarah Maxwell.
Miss Wood was given a corsage
of minature mums when she arriv
ed. Places were laid for twelve
guests. Lunch included a chicken
dish, vegetables, a salad, and a
banana creme dessert.
After the meal, guests were in
vited into the living room where
the hostesses presented gifts of
crystal and china to the bride.

Lumber Bridge Choir
to perform on Dec . 2
The Lumber Bridge Community
Choir will present the musical by
Gary Lanier, "That Night At
Bethlehem," on Sunday Evening,
December 2, at 5 p.m. at the
Lumber Bridge Presbyterian
Church in Lumber Bridge.
The 23 member choir is under
the direction of Marvin Lynne
Maxwell.
Soloists for the service are
Maryfrancis Mallo, Ken Koonce
and Steve Amnions.
Narrator will be Ethelene Shaw.
An instrumental ensemble will
play a special arrangement of
"What Child Is This" with piano,
organ, flute, violin and handbells.
Other selections to be sung by the
choir are: "Silent Night, Holy
Night,'' by F. Gruber, "Christmas
Carol Medley," by Bruce Ball
inger, and "O Holy Night" by R.
Adams.
Everyone is invited to attend the
service and the social to be held im
mediately following the service in
the Stamps Fellowship Hall.

other volunteers are once again
working to make SHARE YOUR
CHRISTMAS a success for needy
Hoke County families.
The success of this endeavor
depends on the generosity of the
people of this county. We invite
churches, civic organizations, mer
chants, business people and private
individuals to contribute to
SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS so
that the holiday season may be a
little brighter for some needy fami
ly.
Contributions of money, canned
or dried food, toys, bed and bath
linens and clothing will be gladly
accepted. If clothing is given, it
should be in reasonable condition
and clean. It would be helpful if
the size is attached to each gar
ment. Of particular need is
children's clothing, of all sizes (in
fants through teens).
All contributions and all persons
wishing to apply for assistance
should come to the Hoke County
Library during the following
times; Thursday 29 November and
each Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday through Tuesday 11
December. The hours on Tuesday
and Thursday are 1 p.m. til 5 p.m.
and Saturday 9 a.m. intil 12 noon.
All contributions are needed no
later than Monday 17 December.
Monetary contributions may be

Special Merit Scholarship for the

College.
Miss Beach is the daughter of

daughter of Robert H. Gatlin of
Raeford and also granddaughter
of Mrs. Van G. Beach of Fayet
teville. (Her mother is the former

Special Merit Scholarships are
awarded to students who have
maintained above-average grades
in high school and who possess
special characteristics of leadership
or have made outstanding con
tributions to their communities.
These students are considered
persons who will make significant
contributions to Peace College.
Peace, a two-year college for
women, offers associate degrees in
liberal arts, music and business.
