Fayette ville man draws fine A Fayetteville man received a heavy fine and probation in Hoke County District Court last Thurs day for driving with his license revoked and having a license from "another jurisdiction." John Joseph Burns, 26, who was arrested on November 18, was sentenced to two years in prison suspended for three years unsuper vised probation and fined $1,000, records say. In another case, a Raeford man was fined and made to pay restitu tion after being found guilty of assault with intent to commit serious injury. Benjamin Billinger was arrested and charged on October 10, records say. According to court records, Bill inger assaulted Irene Taylor by hit ting her in the face with his fists. Taylor's nose was broken in the attack. Billinger plead not guilty but was found otherwise during the trial and was sentenced to no less than six months and no more than nine months, records say. The man was fined $200 and made to pay $920 in restitution to Taylor, records say. A 58-year-old woman was in court last Friday after being charg ed with possession with intent to manufacture and sell cocaine. During the trial, the charge against Flora Lockiear, of Red Springs, was downgraded to main taining a residence for the pur poses of selling drugs. Lockiear plead guilty to the charges, records say. She was sentenced to one year suspended for two years supervised probation. Lockiear was also fined $300, according to records. . Commie Wall, of Shannon, who was arrested on October 1?, was given 10 days in jail last week for being drunk in public. Wall, 44, was shouting obscenities at patrons and not allowing them to enter a county store, records say. Willie McClain, of Raeford, was in court last week charged with driving while his license was revok ed and driving while impaired (DWI). The 42-year-old man's DWI charge was downgraded to too fast for conditions and without cau tion, court records say. McClain was arrested on August 19, records say. The man was sentenced to 18 months suspended for two years supervised probation and fined $400, say records. A Red Springs man was sentenc ed to 30 days suspended for restitu tion after being found guilty of failure to pay sales tax in May, June, July and August of this year. Lonnie Locklear, Jr. plead not guilty to the charges but was found guilty, records say. The charges were consolidated by District Court Judge Warren Pate and Locklear was forced to pay $323.91 restitution to the State Department of Revenue, records say. In District Court the week of November 26, there were 12 people from this area convicted of DWI, according to court records. Tyrone Kelly Anthony, of Fayetteville, was arrested and charged of DWI and passing though a double yellow line on November 10, according to records. Anthony, 22, was sentenced to 90 days suspended for one year un supervised probation and fined $125, records say. Brian Elliot Johnson, also of Fayetteville, was given a seven day active jail term as part of his sentence after being found guilty of DWI. Johnson, 31, was arrested on his second offense on June 23, records say. The man was given a one year sentence suspended for two years supervised probation and fined $300, records say. Harrison Southerland, of Raeford, received a 60 day suspended sentence and two years unsupervised probation and a $100 fine after being convicted of DWl on October 26, records say. Otis Charley Galbreth, of Raeford, was given a 10 day active jail term after being found guilty of his second offense of DWI. Galbreth was arrested on the DWI charge and a charge of hav ing slick tires on his car on October 10. He was sentenced to one year suspended for two years special supervised probation and fined S300, records say. Mary Lois Hunt, of Fairmont, was given a 60 day suspended sentence for her DWI charge stem ming from November 2. Hunt was given two years un supervised probation and fined $100, records say. James Roy Lear, of Raeford, was charged on November 9 DWI while having no operator's license, records say. Lear, 24, was given a 60 day sentence suspended for two years unsupervised probation and a $125 fine, court records say. Charles Willis Ellison, a Red Springs resident, got a suspended 60 day sentence and a $100 fine for his charge of DWI on November 11, records say. County grocery barred from food stamp program Davis Kash Mart No. 2, Route 1 , Racford, in Bowmorc has been barred from accepting food stamps because of program violations, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service reports. Owned by Franklin Davis, the store was disqualified from the Food Stamp Program for five years, starting Nov. 23, after being charged with selling cigarettes, beer, paper products and other in eligible items for food stamps. Gerald Holt, who is in charge of the Raleigh field office of the Food and Nutrition Service, explained that the store will not be allowed to accept food stamps during the dis qualification period.
