Dees - Thompson exchange vows Miss Pattie Thompson of Pem broke and Darrell Gene Dees of Maxton were married on November 24 in the First Presbyterian Church of Maxton. The Rev. Ron Tippens officiated at the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Thompson of Pembroke. She is a graduate of Prospect High School and is employed by Maxton Supply Com pany. The groom is the son of Kenneth Yates Dees of Raeford and Mrs. Virginia H. Meshaw of Hope Mills. He is a graduate of Hoke High School and is employed by Machine and Welding Supply in Laurinburg. Church decorations included an open Bible encircled by greenery, tree candelabra, and arrangements of pink flowers on pedestals. The family seating was indicated by pew markers. The wedding musicians were Cheryl Clark and Elaine Brooks. Musical selections included "When God Created Love" and "There Is Love." Escorted by her father, the bride wore a long gown of white taffeta which featured a v-shaped and leg o-mutton sleeves. It was trimmed with silk venise lace, seed pearls, ribbon and a candy box bow on the back of the waist. Her white illu sion veil was held by a cap of lace and seed pearls. She carried a cascading bouquet of white cym bidium orchids, and pink and white miniature carnati6ns. The matron of honor was Vickey Woods, sister of the bride. She wore a gown of wine organza which had a sweetheart neckline and a full skirt with swags ? and fabric roses. Her colonial nosegay was of pink miniature carnations and pink heather. The maid of honor was Barbara Dees of Raeford, sister of the groom. Bridesmaids were Debbie D. Ray and Darlene Capps, sisters of the groom, and Regina Dial, cousin of the bride. They wore dresses and carried flowers like those of the matron of honor. The best man was the groom's father, Kenneth Y. Decs. The ushers were Marshall Thompson, brother of the bride, and Greg Dial, cousin of the bride, of Pem broke, Bobby Ray of Shelby, and Lawrence Conoly of Raeford. The men wore grey tuxedos. Children in the wedding party were Margaret and Donna Dees and Carrie Speros, flower girls, and Alan Dial, ringbearer. The flower girl wore rose organza dresses accented by fabric roses. Two of them dropped rose petals and the other carried roses for the mothers. After the ceremony a reception was given by the bride's parents in the church fellowship hall. Elaine Hollingshead and Evelyn Hess of Raeford helped with the serving. Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Dees attend Officer of year Alex Norton, Chief Deputy with the Hoke County Sheriff's Depart ment, was recently recognized as the Officer of the Year by the Hoke County Law Enforcement Officers' Association. Association Presi dent Sam Motley presented Norton with a framed Certificate at the November 20 supper meeting. The Certificate recognized Norton, a Charter member of the Association, for his dedication to law enforce ment. He has served as a Deputy with the Sheriff's Department for the past 22 years. Mrs. Darrell Dees ed the guest register. On the evening before the wed ding, Kenneth Dees hosted a rehearsal dinner in the church fellowship hall. The couple will live in Maxton after their wedding trip to Orlan do, Florida. Visiting couple honored Sunday .<? Friends gathered at the home of Mary Ruth Haire on Sunday even ing, December 9, for a Christmas dinner and to honor Mr. and Mrs. Tom Butler of Fort Lauderdale, Florida who are visiting relatives and friends in the area. Those attending from Raeford were Evelyn Ashburn, Etta Mae Barnes, Peggy and Ralph Calloway, Grace Daramus, Fleeta Maxwell, Minnie Nixon, Jim Stephens, Louise Taylor and Ola Rae Tucker. Hal Beavers came from Siler City, Bib Jones, R.C. Styers and Ruth Wilkerson from Aberdeen, Claytie Maxwell from Hamlet, Ellen and George Wicker from Carthage, and Corbit Nobles from Red Springs. The home was beautifully decorated for Christmas and tables were set for twenty-one people. Shower held for Crowder Miss Lisa Crowder was honored November 30 with a lingerie shower at the home of Mrs. Jimmy McPhaul. Co-hostess was Mrs. Jimmy Plummer. A Christmas theme was used in decorations. Guests were served punch and finger foods. The W.M.U. enjoyed their an nual Christmas party Wednesday evening December 15 at the church. Wednesday evening, December 12 there will be a hayride and Christmas caroling to the "shut ins" in the area. The Christmas Cantata will be presented during morning worship service Sunday, December 16 followed by the children's play -"Happy Birthday Dear Jesus" that evening at 7:30 p.m. ? ? * Pittman Grove Baptist Church has extended their rest home ministry to include Open Arms Rest Home in Raeford and Highland Rest Home in Fayet teville. ? ? ? Attendance was good at Galatia Presbyterian Church Sunday for morning worship service. Capt. and Mrs. Billy Stefan was in charge of lighting the advent wreath. * * * Serving as new interim pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church is Rev. Tom Faulk of Fayetteville. The sanctuary choir of Taber nacle Baptist Church and the Adult Choir of Pittman Grove Baptist Church will present the Christmas Cantata, "Home For Christmas," Sunday afternoon, December 16 at 4 p.m. at Taber nacle Baptist Church. ? * ? Milton Newton is a patient at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham. Tom Newton is recuperating at home following eye surgery. Debie Gillis has returned home from the hospital. Bill Gillis is also home from the hospital. ? * * Mrs. Bruce Turner spent two weeks recently with her daughter, Mrs. John Young and family in Hagerstown, Maryland. Mrs. Mack Sandy visited hei aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs, Angus Chason in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Sand) were traveling companions tc Washington and also on theii return trip. They report a real nice trip. Mrs. Bruce Turner had the misfortune of falling at her home recently and has an ijijured knee as a result. ? * ? Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wood entertained Mrs. Woods' brothers and sisters with a family gel together Saturday evening. Aftei dinner they all exchanged and opened Christmas gifts. * * * Mrs. Louise Watson spent several days last week with her sister, Mrs. Alma Parker in Selma. Births Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward McLean announce the birth of twins on November 28 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. They have a son, LaShawn MonQuez, and a daughter LaChaunta Monque. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Jay Home announce the birth of a daughter, Cassidy Hope, on November 30 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. Carolyn Monroe announces the birth of a son, Kevin DeJaun, on November 27 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
