BfUMiiiWi HaWe Robeson man sought for assault Hoke County warrants were sworn out this week for a Robeson County man who is being sought for assaulting a woman on December 8. Raymond Barton, 30, had not been arrested Tuesday, but was be ing sought on charges that he allegedly assaulted Cathy McNeill by hitting her about the face and body. According to a report filed by a Hoke County Deputy Sheriff, while Barton was assaulting McNeill, another man, James Maynor was present in the home. According to reports, Barton was about to hit McNeill with a glass cookie jar when Maynor in terfered by asking the man not to hit her. Barton did not hit McNeill with the jar. Instead, he allegedly shat tered the container over Maynor's head cutting the man's scalp, reports say. Warrants for the arrest of Bar ton, a Maxton resident, have been sent to Robeson County, a spokesperson for the Hoke County Sheriffs Department said Mon day. Barton had not been arrested as of Monday. In an unrelated incident, a registered pit bulldog was reported stolen on December 4. According to reports, when Susan Dickens went to bed on the night of December 3, the dog was in her house. When she arose the next morn ing, the animal was nowhere to be found in the home or around her neighborhood, reports say. The dog, which belonged to Willie Dickens, was valued at $400, reports say. In further incidents, two break ins were reported to the Hoke Sheriffs Department last week. Benjamin F. Smith was reportedly victimized while he was visiting a sick friend at Moore Memorial Hospital. Smith left his home at about 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday and returned to find two television sets and a shotgun missing. The apparent theft was discovered before the lights in the home were even turned on because the television antenna wires were laying in the middle of the floor, reports say. Smith also found his back door partially open, according to reports. Both televisions and the missing 12 gauge shotgun were valued at $110, reports say. Willette Neill's home was broken into last Thursday, accord ing to sheriffs reports. Entry was gained into the home by tampering with the lock on the front door. Taken from the home was an 8-track tape and a cassette tape recorder, reports say. The items were valued at $35. A Fayetteville man was in jail Monday after being arrested the day before and charged with larceny. Carlos E. Jimenes, 31, was ar rested for allegedly taking two men's coats and a pair of gloves from Raeford's Maxway Store and a package of cheese and a bottle of champagne from the A&P store. Jimenes was arrested by Raeford policemen, said Police Chief Leonard Wiggins. The man's bond was set at S200, reports say. A Raeford man, Harley Caulder, was arrested last Sunday and charged with shoplifting from A&P, reported Wiggins. Caulder, 46, was reported to have tried to take two bottles of shampoo and two rolls of camera film valued at $10.56, Wiggins said. Another shoplifter, a juvenile, was reported caught at Raeford's Sky City store. The 13-year-old was apparently caught trying to take two toy trucks last Thursday, Wiggins said.
