Standing tall These mullet stand up for roasting Indian style just before Christmas at the first annual Hoke County Mullet roast. About 110 of the fish were left unsealed, split, placed on steel forked sticks and roasted by a huge bed of coals. About 125 county residents and guests feasted on the results. The things are happening in Hoke County, purpose of the gathering, which was sponsored by the Chamber of Com merce and Southern National Bank, was to put the word out that good Getting started Charles D. McNeill of Lumberton reflects over the flames as hard-wood pallets burn in preparation for the Mullet Roast. McNeill has been cooking mullet " Indian " style as long as most around the area can remember. The pallets, which ? were furnished by Faberge, made fine coals for roasting the fish prior to the event held at the Raeford Civic Center on December 12. Hoke County is now accepting applications for the position of BUILDING INSPECTOR, salary $14,000. per year. Applications and a copy of the job description may be obtained from the Inspection Departmept at 227 N. Main street, Raeford. Digging in County residents and guests seem to be enjoying mullet served during the first annual Hoke County Mullet Roast. Those attending were told that Hoke County needs help from residents and elected of ficials in order to move ahead.
