Capps helping Spartans A Raeford woman, Jill Capps, is helping the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Lady Spartan Basketball team on their way to a possible tournament spot. Statistics released recently show Capps shooting 1004b from the free throw line. Her team now has a record of 6-2. Capps has played in all eight games. Capps is also shooting S2% from the floor and is averaging 4.1 rebounds per game. Lady Eagles capture two wins The Lady Eagles defeated the Rockingham Rockets 42-18, December 10 at Rockingham. The Eagles outscored the Rockets 14-3 in the first quarter and 17-7 in the second to take a 31-10 lead at halftime. The first half was sparked by tough defense and good inside shots. The second half was marred by bad passes and poor shooting. The Eagles held the Rockets 4-3 in the third quarter and 7-5 in the fourth for the 42-18 victory. Kim Craigmiles lead the Eagles with 13 points followed by Kristen Kelton with 12. Bonita Doby scored 9 points followed by Jennifer Blue with four, Wanda Locklear and Marsha Pickett each scored two points. C. Harris lead the rockets with eight. Thursday, December 13, the Lady Eagles traveled to Sanford taking a 46-12 win over East Lee. The Eagles slow 7-3 first quarter start improved somewhat in the se cond quarter outscoring East Lee 12-1 for a 19-4 lead at halftime. The Eagles were sparked in the third quarter by Jennifer Blue's Drive of 13 points. To take a 17-2 edge. A lot of different players took part in the fourth quarter and the Eagles maintained a 12-6 edge for its 46-12 victory. The Eagles were led by Jennifer Blue with 16 points followed by Kristen Kelton with 8 points. Bonita Doby and Marsha Pickett each had 7 followed by Kim Craigmiles with four. Tammy Stephens and Kathy Ar tis each scored two points for the team's 46 points. Stone lead East Lee with five points. In other action the Lady Eagles defeated Ellerbe Monday, December 17, 46-15 to take a 5-0 record into the Christmas break. The Eagles started out pressing taking a 16-0 lead in the first quarter. Bonita Doby and Kim Craigmiles lead the charge with steals and assists. The lead had expanded to 30-5 by halftime with frequent substitu tions. Recreation Bits Liniment basketball An organizational meeting for the Men's Liniment Basketball League will take place on Monday, January 7, at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Office. All interested teams should have a represen tative present. To be eligible, you must be 30 years old or older.
