Brush fires Hoke County was plagued in December by brush fires which were ap parently aided by dry weather. Shannon man jailed for traffic violations A Shannon man has filed no ap peal and has been sent to prison for at least one year after being found guilty in District Court of eight traffic violations. Dan Collins, 22, was arrested on November 19 and charged with a stop sign violation, not having his car registered, having no inspec tion sticker, having no insurance on his car, driving while his license was revoked, speeding 80 miles per hour in a 55 zone, driving at least 15 miles per hour over the speed limit while trying to elude a law en forcement officer and failure to stop for a blue light and siren. District Court Judge Warren Pate sentenced the man to no less than 12 months, not to exceed 18 months, according to court records. Collins was sentenced last Thursday. In another court matter last Fri day, a Raeford man, Lenard Delane Harris, was sentenced to six months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections system after being found guilty of carry ing a concealed weapon. According to court records, the charge was a violation of Harris' current probation. The 36-year-old man was ar rested on November 18 and was found to be carrying a .38 calibre revolver with the serial numbers removed, records say. Another Raeford man, 24-year old Tommy Lee Brunson was sentenced to 90 days in jail after being convicted of misdemeanor breaking and entering. A warrant was issued for Brun son's arrest on November 2, records say. Branson was given credit for 26 days in jail, court records say. A Raeford youth was found guilty of setting off fireWorks at Hoke High School, in court last Friday. Ronald E. McMillian, 17, was found guilty of disorderly conduct, according to records. A warrant for discharging pyrotechnics was issued for McMillian on November 5, records say. The man was sentenced to 30 days suspended for one year un supervised probation and 24 hours community service, records say. James David Smith, who was ar rested November 30, was sentenc ed to 60 days in jail suspended for one year unsupervised probation and a $100 fine, records say. Smith, a Raeford resident, is 21. Robert Leo Mims, 23, was ar rested on October 21 for DWI, ac cording to records. The Raeford man received a 60-day sentence suspended for one year unsupervised probation and a $100 fine, records say. Everett Neil Ferrell, of Sax apahaw, was fined $100 and given one year unsupervised probation after being convicted of DWI on November 28. A $100 fine and a suspended sentence was given ,ta William Joseph Welch, 21, of Fort Bragg, after he was convicted of DWI on September 8, records say.
