i\e taxing winter These Canadian geese seem to be having a relaxing winter season floating on this Cumberland County pond, far from the guns of Maryland and Currituck, where Hoke County hunters are spending hours in blinds hoping to see this many fowl. Bucks split with Red Springs , girls maintain perfect record The Hoke High Bucks used a home court advantage to bounce back from a Thursday night defeat and evened the score with Red Springs by top ping the Red Devils 74-67 in Friday night action. Tony McRae and Marvin Maynor combined for 47 points to give the Bucks the edge, bringing the team's season record to 4-2. During the action in Raeford Friday, Maynor had 24 points and McRae 23 to be the only Bucks in double figures. The Bucks had a narrow lead at halftime 29-26. Other scorers for Hoke were: Ronnie Melvin with 6 points, Marco Pickett with 6, Bruce Moore with 6, Harry Southerland with 4, Elgin Blue with 2, Johnny Allbrooks with 2 and James Graham with 1. Red Springs, now 5-3 for the year, were led Friday by Ronnie Paterson, who scored a game high of 29 points. In the girls' game on Friday, the Lady Bucks kept their perfect season in tact by routing Red Springs 71-41. The Hoke attack was lead by Toni Rheames with 14 points, Sharon McNeil with 13 points, Sheila Sutherland with 12 and Thelma Watkins with 12 points. At halftime the local girls led Red Springs 36-14. The Lady Bucks are now 6-0 for the season. Red Springs fell to 4-4. In play at Red Springs on Thursday, the Bucks were top ped by eight points, losing to the Red Devils by a score of 75 to 67. During that losing effort, Tony McRae led all scorers. The 6-5 senior scored 27 points for the game high. Maynor was the only other Buck in double figures. The 6-3 sophomore put 1 1 points through the hoop. For Red Springs, Mark Ferguson scored 22 points and Glenn Patterson came up with 19 during the game. Other Bucks scoring Thurs day night were: Melvin 2, Allb rooks 4, Moore 5, Southerland 2, Pickett 6, Blue 5 and Graham 5. Maynor and Pickett both fouled out to the game. The Bucks trailed at halftime by four 29-25. In Thursday's play, the Lady Bucks topped Red Springs by 27 points, winning 56-39. Brenda Melvin had 18 points for the game high. Toni Rheames had 10 and Sheila Sutherland had 13 to be the only other Bucks in double figures.
