Social work program offered The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will offer an exten sion program at Fayetteville State University beginning this fall. The program will allow field based? or extension? students to complete one half of the re quirements for the master of social work degree on a part-time basis. The remaining requirements must be met at UNC-Chapel Hill. Students in the program will need at least three years to com plete the degree, the first two years at Fayetteville State and the last at the University. The degree must be completed in a maximum of five years. During the two years of the off campus program, students who are employed continue to meet a ma jor portion of their agcncy respon sibilities while taking courses on Fridays during fall and spring semesters at Fayetteville State. Two courses will be offered each semester. Students may meet some degree requirements in the agencies where they are employed or at another social work organization in the area. The curriculum being offered concentrates on services to in dividuals, families and small groups and service to organiza tions and communities. Students may specialize in health, mental health, public welfare, aging or familv and children's services dur ing their final year of study. Field-based students will com plete the same core curriculum re quirements as on-campus first-year students. Students also must demonstrate knowledge of life cy cle development either by previous undergraduate course work, a directed readings course or ex amination. Applications will be accepted until July 15. Studerits are selected for the extension program by the same process and criteria as on campus students. By Nancy McNeill The Hoke County High School Chorale performed several times during the Christmas season under the direction of Anne Dorsey. On December 4, they entertain ed the Hoke County Senior Citizen's Club at the United Methodist Church in Raeford. The Chorale provided the enter tainment for the Lions Club on December 10. The Chorale projected a Christmas atmosphere while the Lions members and their wives en joyed a steak dinner. On December 18 the Chorale visited the Open Arms Rest Home. The traditional carols were sung as well as wome up-beat tempo songs. Several of the rest home residents sang along with the Chorale and a joyous and fun time was had by all. The Chorale also continues to uphold the tradition of voicing their patriotism by singing the Na tional Anthem before every basketball game that is played on the Bucks' home court. County student gets CCTC honor Central Carolina Technical Col lege Dean of Students, F. Hubert Garner, has announced that Yvonne M. Lospinuso of Hoke County has been named to the Dean List's for the Fall Quarter 1984. Students announced as Dean's List students must have been enrolled full-time in a curriculum program, at the Sanford school received no grade lower than a 'C* with no incomplete grades and a final grade point average of 3.25 for the quarter. Oxendine makes Georgia Tech Dean's List Robin Oxendine, who is the daughter of Earl and Betty Oxen dine of Hoke County, has been named to the Dean's List at % Georgia Tech University for the last two quarters. Robin is a senior in chemical engineering and will graduate in March. To remain on the Dean's List, Robin had to maintain a 3.0 - average. Sappenfield finishes n Navy warfare course Navy Ensign Mary C. Sappen fleld, daughter of Gerald A. and Mary M. Sappenfield, both of Raeford, has completed the Basic Surface Warfare Officer's Course. During the 18-weelc course con ducted at Surface Warfare Officers School Command Detachment ^ Coronado, San Diego, Sappenfield * was taught how to perform as a watch and division officer aboard Navy Ships. She received extensive instruc tions on the duties of an underway Officer of the deck, which includ ed shiphandling and maneuvering information under simulated battle conditions. She also studied radar detection, tracking and plotting of ^ enemy aircraft, ships and missiles; *? communications; damage control; and shipboard organization. A 1980 graduate of Hoke Coun ty High School, and a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree, she joined the Navy in May 1984.
