Bucks win two, girls lose 1st The Hoke High School Bucks had to come from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Scotland High 54-51 last Tuesday night and use an over time to top Reid Ross on Friday. Good defense and a key technical foul helped the home team to the vie tory. . "We played them man to man for three and a half quarters," Hoke Coach Greg Killingsworth said, adding that they went into the zone late in the game forcing Scotland to take outside shots. Marvin Maynor popped 16 points in for the Bucks in that game. Maynor had help from Bruce Moore with 10 points and Tony McRae and Marco Pickett both of whom had 8. Last Friday night, the boys won again in overtime beating Reid Ross 69-66. "We had to play one of the best games we played all year," Kill ingsworth said. "We had one of our better outside shooting nights," said the coach. Hoke went into the game facing a six foot, nine inch Charles Sowell with intentions of getting rid of the big man, Killingsworth said. With about three minutes left in the game, the Bucks did just that. Sowell fouled out. "After we got the big man out, we were able to go inside," Kill ingsworth said. The Hoke boys now have a 7-3 overall record and stand 2-1 in the con ference. The Lady Bucks dropped a chance to be giant killers last Friday night as they lost their first game of the season to Reid Ross. The Ross girls have won their last 28 games. Reid Ross won the game by a slim margin, 39-36. According to Audry Long, Coach of the Lady Bucks, her girls played Reid Ross' game. The girls now stand with an overall record of 9-1 with a conference record of 2-1. Del Pridgen led the Lady Bucks with 15 points in the game, but fouled out with 5:33 remaining. Sharon McNeil had 10 of the Bucks points.
