Miss Townsend is a graduate of Hoke County High School, Peace College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Barnes is a graduate of Seventy First High School, Fayet teville. He attended East Carolina University and is employed as a sales representative with Bryan Pontiac -Cadillac-Honda. An April 6 wedding is planned at the Raieford United Methodist Church. Susan Elizabeth Townsend Births f Mr. and Mis. Humphrey Carndl Andrews announce the birth of a daughter, Monica, on January 6 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wayne Murphy announce the birth of a daughter, Meghan Le Nece, on January 8 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Harris announce the birth of a son on January at Moore Memorial Hospital. Missionary union meets - The Hoke County Missionary ? Union recently held its first meeting of 1985 at Silver Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The theme is "A Century of Witnessing for Christ". The guest minister for the meeting was the Rev. E.G. Avery pastor of Rock Hill Baptist Church. His topic was "The Gospel of Christ". The meeting was a good one and very inspiring. January 26 bride shower honoree Tuesday Night, January 15, Miss Teresa Beasley was honored with a floating bridal shower at the Evangelical Methodist Fellowship Building. Miss Beasley was given a corsage of pink roses when she arrived. The refreshment table was centered with an arrangement of pink silk ro9es. Refreshments were cake squares, nuts, mints, sand wiches, and punch. Mrs. Audrey Hendrix served the punch. Hostesses were Mrs. Hendrix and Mrs. Lib Webb. Twenty-five guests came between 7 and 8:30, bringint many nice gifts. Miss Beasley and Sandy Mansfield will be married Satur day, January 26 at the Evangelical Methodist Church at 7 p.m. 35 Years service William D. Cothran recently completed a milestone in his career with Burlington In dustries Raeford Plant by ac complishing 35 years con tinuous service. Cothran began work at the local facility as a Loom Cleaner in the Weave Department. Since that time he has been promoted several times and presently works in the Weave Department as a shift supervisor. Mrs. Huff is the former Charlotte Passapae Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Odell Passapae of Pgiehurst, The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Denver Ralph Huff of Aberdeen. The Rev. Joseph Armory of Palmetto, Florida officiated. He was assisted by the Rev. Kemper Fitch of Raeford. Mrs. Gary Parker of Atlanta, Ga. was matron of honor and the bride's only attendant. The groom's father, Denver Ralph Huff, was his best man. The couple will live in Atlanta, Ga. Ladies Auxiliary Meeting The Ladies Auxiliary held their January meeting on January 8 at the Town Hall. Mrs. Marian Summer - Pres. opened the meeting and, gave a synopsis of the work in 1984. The minutes were read by the Sec., Mrs. Georgia Beck. Plans for programs during the new year were discussed. Mrs. Kate Weber gave an outline of projects and way's to raise money. Others present, Mary Francis Mollo, Mae Dunshee, Ellie Forbis, Lois Summer, Lib Sumner, Mildred Watson, and a visitor, Rose Faircloth of Erwin. Refreshments were served by Georgia Beck. February meeting will be Tues day, February 5th. Home Interior Party On Sunday evening, January 13, Mrs. Marvin Sumner was hostess for a Home Interior showing at her home. Davis announces the engagement of her daughter, Susan Kelly Davis, to Richard Houston Jones. Miss Davis, also the daughter of the late Paul B. Davis, is a Hoke High graduate. She has received an Associate Arts Degree from Sand hills Community College. She is now attending Pembroke State University and working at Home Food Super Market. Mr. Jones is the son of Jessie Jones and Mrs. Kitzy Norris Jones. He attended Pembroke State University and is now employed as a pilot by Owens Air Service. The couple plans to be married on May 12 at 3:00 in the Raeford United Methodist Church. UDC holds January meeting The Raeford Chapter of the United Daughters of the Con federacy held its January meeting at the home of Mrs. Lillian Wood. Mrs. Pauline Pittman was co hostess. The President, Mrs. Treva Koonce, presided. She led the ritual, pledge of allegience and salute to the flags. Mrs. Pittman had the devotional. In the business session, plans were discussed for an essay contest to be held in schools. The president announced that a membership cer tificate for Mrs. Limar Gatlin Taylor Williams had been re ceived. She also announced that there would be a shower for the Veterans Hospital at the February meeeting. Mrs. Wood presented a program on General Simon B. Buckher. "Dixie" was sung by the group.
