Three years given for break-in of county residence BrE* Mllkr A Raeford man was sentenced to three yean in prison after being convicted of two counts of break ing and entering. Dennis Hamilton, 23, will go to prison for breaking into the home of Willie C. Bridges and taking $395 worth of personal property including a BB gun, two knives and three shotguns, according to Hoke County Superior Court records. Hamilton was also convicted of breaking into Selester Bridges house and taking a headset stereo and a portable radio, records say. In a plea bargain arrangement, all larceny charges were con solidated for sentencing if Hamilton plead guilty to both counts of breaking and entering, records say. Warrants were issued for both break-ins last October 3. Dan Collins, a Shannon resi dent, was sentenced to six months in jail after being convicted of nine traffic violations, according to records. The charges stem from a chase which led area law enforcement of ficials around the county at high speeds. Collins, 22, was convicted of having no registration on his car, speeding to elude arrest, speeding 80 miles per hour in a SS zone, careless and reckless driving, run ning a stop sign, failure to stop for a blue light and siren, having no in surance, driving with his license revoked and having no inspection sticker, records say, adding that the man plead guilty to all charges. Credit was given the man for 10 days in jail. In an appeal from Hoke County District Court, a 19-year-old Raeford man got his sentence lengthened by one year. Vincent Giles Ross, who was charged with breaking into a vend ing machine behind McDonald Tire Service and breaking into an office and an apartment in the old Raeford Hotel Building, was sentenced to three years in prison, court records say. According to court records, Ross was sentenced to two years in prison in Hoke County District Court. Ross was convicted of taking candy, a camera and a calculator from the office of A.W. Stellway in the old Hotel. An apartment in the building was also reported broken into although there was no record of any item stolen. According to records, the ven ding machine was broken into dur ing October of last year while the hotel break-ins were reported on January 22. Credit for 27 days in jail was given the man, records say. An 18-year-old Raeford man, Richard Harris, was sentenced to one year in prison as "a committed youthful offender," according to records. The sentence was the result of a probation violation, records say. Harris was sentenced to two years supervised probation by District Court Judge Warren Pate under the condition that he either attend school or have a job. According to a report by his pro bation officer, the man did neither. Harris also did not pay ' his supervision costs and fines as directed by Probation Officer George McGuire. Credit was given Harris for five days in jail. Jackie Goodwin, 21, was also given prison time for a probation violation, records say. A Moore County District Court judge sentenced Goodwin to a five year suspended sentence on November 29, 1983, according to records for possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and delivery of drugs. According to Officer McGuire, Goodwin missed appointments and failed to pay $449 in fines and restitution. Credit for 208 days in jail was given to Goodwin. Teresa Hemphill Withers, a Charlotte woman, was given two years to run concurrently with time she is already serving after being convicted of forging a check to Raeford's Food Lion. Withers is in prison on a sentence from Cumberland Coun ty, records say. A warrant was issued for the 20-year-old woman on December 13 for a check apparently forged last October 27. The check, drawn on the ac count of Shenill L. Rhyne, was for $50.23, records say. Due to a plea arrangement, Withers got the additional time to run concurrently with the existing sentence. A 19-year-okl Raeford man, Harold Dean Cummings, was plac ed on supervised probation for three years and ordered to pay a $300 fine and $230 in restitution after being convicted of stealing a $10,573 Chevrolet pick-up truck from Tarheel Hatcheries. Cummings, along with 18-year old James Chester Henderson, also of Raeford, was caught in Virginia driving the truck, records say. Both men waived extradition proceedings and were shipped back to Hoke County, say records. Henderson was also sentenced to three years suspended for three years supervised probation, fined $300 and ordered to pay $275 in restitution. The men were found guilty of larceny, records say. Rita Faye Oxendine, a 30-year old Red Springs woman, plead guilty of selling marijuana and was sentenced to two years suspended for two years supervised proba tion, fined SI SO and ordered to pay $20 restitution and a $73 lawyer fee, records say. Oxendine was charged on February 22, 1984 with possession with intent to sell and deliver mari juana and sale and delivery of the drug, records say. . According to a plea bargain, if the woman plead guilty to selling the pot, the rest of the charges would be dismissed, records say. Oxendine apparently sold a $10 bag of the drug to an undercover City-County Bureau of Narcotics agent. Another Red Springs woman, 42-year-old Mary Bui lard, was sentenced to 30 days in prison and three years special supervised pro bation after being convicted of possession with intent to sell mari juana. A warrant for Bui lard's arrest was issued on November 30 of last year. The woman was also convicted to possession of drug parapher nalia, records say. Bullard was fined $300 and ordered by Judge Farmer to pay $100 in restitution, say records. Raymond Wallace, a Raeford man, was given four months in prison and two years special super vised probation after being con victcd of breaking and entering, records say. Wallace, 34, apparently broke into the home of Jeff Harris two days before Christmas of last year. John Junior Clark, 23, was sentenced to five years on supervis ed probation after being convicted of shooting a 12 gauge shotgun in to an occupied house and two counts of first degree burglary, records say. According to warrants issued for his arrest, Clark broke into the home of Mary Strong and the home of Mary Sue Locklear with intent to commit kidnapping. The incidents happened on June 1 of last year, warrants say. John Bartha, a Raeford man, was convicted of two counts of selling marijuana and sentenced to two years supervised probation and fined $150, records say. Bartha, 29, apparently sold a S3S bag of the drug to an under cover agent, records say. On March 14 of last year, Bar tha was charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver and two counts of selling the drug, records say. According to a plea arrange ment, if Bartha plead guilty to two counts of selling, the other charges would.be dropped.
