CP&L helping with heating Ken Witherspoon believes mak ing a donation to the energy assitance program Project Share is like extending a helping hand directly to your neighbors. "People know exactly where their money is going when they give to the program," said Witherspoon, director of Hoke County's Department of Social Services. Project Share is a program that helps low-income, handicapped and elderly Hoke County citizens pay their winter heating bills, regardless of the fuel they use. It is sponsored by Carolina Power & Light Co. CP&L collects donations from its customers and employees and matches the money dollar-for dollar up to SI 50,000. County social services agencies distribute the money to those in need. Reci pients must be customers of the utility. "Project Share has come in han dy numerous times," Witherspoon said, "especially during the cold snaps we've had." So far this heating season, 30 Hoke County families have been helped through Project Share, Witherspoon said. "It's early March and we can still have some cold weather," he added, reminding Hoke County citizens that they still have time to contribute to the program before the heating season ends. "We've been more than grateful for theii contributions so far," Witherspoon said. He catted Project Share a good partnership between the private sector and local government. Since CP JUL and the local ijwriti cover ail administrative coats of the pro gram, all fundi coflacted no dfeact iy to pay heating faflb.
