Thirteen convicted of liquor law violations
Thirteen area resident* were
convicted in Hoke County District
Court last week of Alcohol
Beverage Control (ABC) infrac
tions.
A Shannon resident, Ramy
Chavis, who was cited on February
9 for possession of liquor under
age 21, was sentenced to 30 days
suspended for three years unsuper
vised probation, court records say.
Chavis, 19, was also fined $50
and ordered by the court not to
have any alcohol or go near
Brady's, a local night club, during
his probation.
James Marshall Mclntyre, of
Raeford, was fined $150 and given
three years unsupervised probation
after being convicted of possessing
liquor for sale , without a permit,
records say.
Mclntyre was cited on
November 10^ 1984.
The 60-year-old man was also
ordered not to break any ABC
laws in the future, according to
records.
Franklin Gray, 23, a St. Pauls
resident, was given a 30 day
suspended sentence and fined $10
after being cited on January 19 for
having a mixed drink in a club
where the management possesses
no alcohol license, records say.
Dannier Ray Smith, of Hope
Mills, was cited on January 19 hav
ing a mixed drink at age 19 and in a
place where no alcohol permit ex
ists.
Smith was sentenced to 60 days
in jail suspended for a $50 fine,
records say.
Ricky Adams, of Pembroke,
was sentenced to 30 days in jail
suspended for a $10 fine after be
ing convicted of possession of li
quor where there is no permit.
Adams, 22, was cited on March
2, records say.
A Raeford resident, Alice Co
leen Adkins, was convicted of
drinking beer under age and given
a 30 day sentenced suspended for a
$50 fine, records say.
Alfred Louis Baldwin, 34, of
Raeford, was sentenced to no less
than nine and no more than 12
months in prison suspended for a
$100 fine after being found guilty
of possession of alcohol for sale on
December 9, records say.
Clarence H. Ching, of Maxton,
was convicted of possession of
beer under age.
Ching, 18, was cited on
February 17 for drinking beer
under age, records say, adding that
he was sentenced to 30 days
suspended for a $30 fine.
Danny Earl Daves, of St. Pauls
was cited on February 19 possess
ing liquor while under age.
After being convicted, the
19-year-old was sentenced to 60
days in jail suspended for two
years on unsupervised probation
and a $75 fine, records say.
Hellen Grady, of St. Pauls, was
fined $10 after being convicted of
having a mixed drink where there
is no permit, records say.
Eric Jerome Hobson, 22, a
Raeford resident, was given three
years unsupervised probation and
fined $100 for possessing alcohol
for sale, records say.
Another Raeford resident,
Willie Marvin McCall, was con
victed of possession of alcohol for
sale and sentenced to one year
suspended for three years unsuper
vised probation and fined $150,
records say.
McCall, 28, was cited on
December 9, records say.
Joe Alton McGeachy, of
Raeford, was convicted of two
counts of possessing alcohol for
sale without a permit, according to
records.
McGeachy, 33, was cited on
February 2 and 9.
He was sentenced to one year
suspended for five years unsuper
vised probation and fined $2S0,
records say.
In other court action, an Aber
deen man was sentenced to 60 days
in the Hoke County Jail after not
paying the fines in a previous driv
ing while impaired (DWI) case,
records say.
The 54-year-old Otis Verbal was
arrested and charged on September
9 of last year, records say.
He was originally sentenced to
60 days suspended and fined $250,
records say.
A 21-year-old Raeford resident,
Evans Jackson, was sentenced to
30 days in jail after being convicted
of assaulting a woman, records
say.
According to a warrant issued
on March 2, Jackson beat Lisa
Jackson's head against a wall.
Felton Jacobs, a Raeford resi
dent, was sentenced to two years
suspended for two years special
supervised probation after being
convicted of cutting Gregory
Monroe on the neck, records say.
Jacobs will also spend 14 days in
the Hoke County Jail for inflicting
the wound that took 19 stitches to
close, records say.
The 22-year-old man was con
victed of assault with a deadly
weapon.
Daren Ray Hardin, a Raeford
resident, was sentenced 10 iwu
years supervised probation that
will change to unsupervised proba
tion once he has paid $300 restitu
tion to Carlos E. Miller.
Hardin, 18, was convicted of
damaging Miller's 1978 Pontiac,
records say.
Myrtle F. Hammonds has until
March 29 to pay off a $23 worth
check to Maxway or she will go to
jail for 30 days, records say.
Hammonds, a Raeford resident,
must also pay $20 for a worthless
check to Pope's, records say.
Ronald D. Sheffield, a Raeford
resident, was convicted of having
no car registration, no insurance
and displaying a fictitious license
plate, records say.
The 26-year-old man was
sentenced to 90 days suspended for
three years unsupervised probation
and fined $130, according to
records.
Henry Purcell, a Raeford resi
dent, was convicted of writing a
worthless check to the Jiffy Stop 2,
records say.
Purcell must pay $13 restitution
by March 13 or go to jail for 30
days, records say.
Billy Marcus McVicker, 51, of
Raeford, was sentenced to one
year suspended for three years
supervised probation after being
convicted of taking three cartons
of cigarettes and a package of
steak from Raeford's Food Lion,
records say.
The man was also ordered to
serve 48 hours of community ser
vice.
Twilla Bullard, a Raeford resi
dent, was sentenced to 90 days in
jail suspended for three years un
supervised probation after being

convicted of shoplifting.
Bullard, 16, apparently took two
pairs of sweat pants, a pocket
book, six pairs of socks, one pair
of anklets, a pair of boots, a bra
and five pairs of underwear from
the local Sky City Store, records
say.
She also took some boots from
the local Maxway and some make
up from Revco, records say.
The girl must also serve 40 hours
of community service.
Evander Locklear, a Parkton
resident, was given six months
suspended for five years unsuper
vised probation and fined $50 for
carrying a concealed weapon,
records say, adding that he was ar
rested on August 14 of last year.
Timothy Purcell, a Raeford resi
dent and student at Hoke High,
was placed on probation for three
years for carrying a shotgun to
school with him.
The 19-year-old boy was ar
rested on November 26 and must
serve 60 hours of community ser
vice, records say.
Patrick Fellows, of Raeford,
was given four years supervised
probation and fined $350 after be
ing convicted of resisting and
obstructing an officer of the law,
bouncing three checks and posses
sion of stolen property, records
say.
The three bad checks were writ
ten to Tucker's Grocery and
Fellows was found in possession of
a watch belonging to David Smith,
records say.
Lisa Jones, of Raeford, was
sentenced to 90 days suspended for
three years unsupervised probation
for shoplifting, records say.
According to warrants, she took
$51.99 in merchandise from Max
way.
Jones, 17, must serve 40 hours
community service, records say.
Four area residents were fined
for possession of marijuana in
court last week.
Diane Chavis, of Lumberton,
Cliff Douglas Hardin, of Lumber
ton, Gerome McKoy, of Red
Springs and Perry Leon Peterkin,
of Raeford were all fined $50,
records say.
Sharon Renee Ross, of Raeford,
was sentenced to one year suspend
ed for two years supervised proba
tion and fined $200 after being
convicted of larceny and trespass
ing, records say.
The 21 -year -old woman was
originally charged with second
deferee burglary, but that charge
was reduced to trespassing, accor
ding to records.
The larceny charge came from
the apparent theft of a box of
diapers from Raeford's Food
Lion, records say.
In previous court action, Peter
McNair Gibson, a Red Springs
resident, was sentenced to six
months in prison suspended for
two years supervised probation
and ordered to pay $598 in restitu
tion to victims of his forgeries,
records say.
Gibson, through a plea bargain,
plead guilty to one count of
forgery and uttering and one count
of uttering, or passing forged
paper, records say.
Both of the counts on file were
against a Billy H. Barefoot,
records say.
