Run and gun The Hoke High Girls Basketball team will be looking to Del Prldgen, who averages 23 points per game, to lead the offensive battle against Cary this Thursday night. The team will also be looking toward Sheila Southerland on the defensive boards. Hoke lost in this conference tournament game to Reid Ross, but went on to beat Rocky Mount to stay alive in the state play-offs. Ross lost last week to Cary. Bucks to battle Cary Thursday At 7 p.m. Thursday night, Audrey Long's Hoke High School Girls Basketball team will again face a "do or die" situation when they take on Cary in the second round of state championship play. The team will be traveling to Wilson Hunt High School in Wilson to play Cary in their quest for a state championship. Although Cary's overall record is I8-T, they are The team that pin Hoke archrival Reid Ross out of tournament play, according to Long. "Cary does not have the height we have, but they are fast," Long said. "I hope everyone plays good defense," she said. "I also hope our guards are on and that no one gets in foul trou ble," Long said. According to the coach, the Hoke High girls will play the same sort of game they have all year. T^e running game has won a lot of ball games for Hoke High, said Long. "Running's gotten us this far," she said. When asked if the team was do ing anything special to get ready for Cary, Long replied: "No, we're just going to run them." If Hoke High wins Thursday night, they will play again Satur day night in the same arena against either Raleigh Broughton High School or Jacksonville High, which ever one wins in their game. Long said. Raleigh Broughton has only lost one game this season, Long said, adding that Jacksonville has the same record as Hoke High. The game Saturday night will also be at 7 p.m. Recreation Bits KhHio aad Babe Rath m , The Recreation Department will sign up participants for the Bambino Baseball League (10-12) and the Babe Ruth baseball league (13-15) beginning March 25.
