The Hoke High Girls Basketball team will be looking
to Del Prldgen, who averages 23 points per game, to
lead the offensive battle against Cary this Thursday
night. The team will also be looking toward Sheila
Southerland on the defensive boards. Hoke lost in
this conference tournament game to Reid Ross, but
went on to beat Rocky Mount to stay alive in the
state play-offs. Ross lost last week to Cary.
Bucks to battle Cary Thursday
At 7 p.m. Thursday night,
Audrey Long's Hoke High School
Girls Basketball team will again
face a "do or die" situation when
they take on Cary in the second
round of state championship play.
The team will be traveling to
Wilson Hunt High School in
Wilson to play Cary in their quest
for a state championship.
Although Cary's overall record
is I8-T, they are The team that pin
Hoke archrival Reid Ross out of
tournament play, according to
Long.
"Cary does not have the height
we have, but they are fast," Long
said.
"I hope everyone plays good
defense," she said.
"I also hope our guards are on
and that no one gets in foul trou
ble," Long said.
According to the coach, the
Hoke High girls will play the same
sort of game they have all year.
T^e running game has won a lot
of ball games for Hoke High, said
Long.
"Running's gotten us this far,"
she said.
When asked if the team was do
ing anything special to get ready
for Cary, Long replied: "No,
we're just going to run them."
If Hoke High wins Thursday
night, they will play again Satur
day night in the same arena against
either Raleigh Broughton High
School or Jacksonville High,
which ever one wins in their game.
Long said.
Raleigh Broughton has only lost
one game this season, Long said,
adding that Jacksonville has the
same record as Hoke High.
The game Saturday night will
also be at 7 p.m.
