Chavis of Maple St., East Laurinburg, has been assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations: In addition, airmen who com plete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized training in the ad ministrative Field. The airman is a 1984 graduate of Pembroke State University. Hollingsworth gets promotion Bridges D. Hollingsworth, grandson of Ozella Pigatt of Rural Route 1, Raeford, and son of Ruth Estherling of Pine Street, Nyack, New York, has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of specialist five. Hollingsworth is a medical specialist at Fort Bragg, with the 1st Corps Support Command. He is a 1978 graduate of Mars Hill College. . Barnes takes part in 'Team Spirit' Army Spec. 4 Christopher D. Barnes, son of Vera and M.O. Barnes of Crawford Wright Road, Raeford, has participated in Team Spirit '85. This is the largest joint, com bined federal training exercise in the free world this year, on the mountainous peninsula of South Korea. The exercise involved members of all services of both the Republic of Korea and the U.S. Under the auspices of the RDK/US Combined Forces Com mand, 200,000 participants from forces currently stationed in Korea and from other locations within the Pacific Command and the United States put their best foot forward. Team Spirit '83 was the 10th an nual exercise of its kind and in volved the deployment, reception and employment of U.S. and Republic of Korea forces respon ding to possible contingencies in the Korean theater. The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate and improve procedures and techniques to be employed during a defense of South Korea. It is designed to increase combat ! readiness of all participants, with emphasis on joint and combined operations.
