30 years service Thurston E. Crtech has com pleted 30 years unbroken service at the Roe ford Plant of Burl ington Industries. He started work at the local plant as a Cloth Doffer in the Weave Department. Since his employ ment he has worked as a Sample Weaver, Sample Warp Hanger, Loom Fixer, Smash Hand and presently works in the Weave Department as a Loom Techni cian. On the Anniversary of his 30th year, Creech was presented a diamond pin, certificate and gift by Plant Manager. Local artists sought for Hoke Art in Park Artists, craftsmen and enter tainers are being sought for the Art in the Park Festival scheduled for Hoke County on April 28. An afternoon of entertainment, games, demonstrations and ice cream are planned for the event to be held in McLauchhn Park. Although some local craftsmen have been lined up and local groups have agreed to perform, more are needed. The event promises to be a local forerunner to the North Carolina Turkey Festival planned for Main Street in Raeford on September 21. Those interested in taking part in the event or in helping make it a success should contact Beverly Pasternak at the Raeford-Hoke Chamber of Commerce. Hoke student captures regional driving title Kelly Calloway, a sophomore at Hoke High School placed first in a Driver Education Roadeo. Each year the North Carolina Driver and Traffic Safety Educa tion Association sponsors six regional driving roadeos. The top three finishers at each regional advances to the state con test at Asheville on April 25. The Roadeo is a safe driving contest of ten skills and a written test. These skills include parallel parking, lane change, straight-in parking, emergency driving situa tions and others. The written test is on the stu dent's knowledge of the North Carolina driver's handbook. This area regional was held at the Cumberland County Auditorium on Saturday, March 28. Kelly beat 16 other contestants. She won S100, a plaque, and the trip to Asheville. Kelly's training instructor was Howard Barkley. Deaths & Funerals Harvey Stocks Harvey Stocks, 54, of Route 5, died Sunday. Funeral Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. George McKeithan. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Emagene Barefoot Stocks; two sons, Eddie and Larry Stocks both of Raeford; a daughter, Patricia Brewer of Raeford; two brothers, Clyd and Carl Stocks, both of Tabor City; four sisters, Susie Long, Mary Parnell and Gladys Parnell, all of Tabor City, and Beulah Conner of Wilmington; and one grandchild. Kendall Capers Funeral services for Kendall Capers, 6 months, who died March 25 in Cape Fear Valley Hospital, was held last Friday in Buie Funeral Home Chapel. Eldress Louise K. Thomas of ficiated. Burial was in Silver Grove Cemetery. Buie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Betty Barnard Cheraw, S.C. ? The funeral for Mrs. Betty McBryde Barnard of Cheraw, South Carolina, formerly of the Antioch area, who died last Thursday was held Sunday at Stubbs Funeral Home. Burial was in Florence County Memorial Gardens in Florence. Surviving are her husband, Lit tleton G. Barnard; a son, James Barnard of the home; a daughter, Carol. LeBel of Charlotte; two sisters: Flora Prittiman of Stoneville and Hannah Cloer of Sanford; three brothers: Bobby Lee McBryde of Clarksville, Virginia; Derry McBryde of Rich mond, Virginia and Paul McBryde of Andalusia, Alabama and several grandchildren. Ruby Halstead Mrs. Ruby Halstead, 61, of the Rockfish area, died March 25. A memorial service was held Fri day at Tabernacle Baptist Church at Rockfish. Revs. T.J. Fulk and James E. Dees officiated. Mrs. Halstead was an active member of Tabernacle until her re cent declining health. She is surviv ed by her husband, Lewis E. Halstead of the home; one daughter, Debbie Holowchik of Newport Ne\ys, Virginia; two sons, JaittfcSTirof MT OneafrMiiTDaviif L. of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sisters, Mary Alice Brown of Marion, South Carolina and Nina Cook of Darlington, South Carolina, two brothers, James and Lewis Rowell of Marion, South Carolina. She is also survived by five grandchildren. Esther McNeill Esther McNeill, of 511 Prospect Avenue, died last Friday at Moore County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday April 4 at 3 p.m. with Elder Eddie Robinson of ficiating. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery. Mrs. McNeill is survived by her husband Amos McNeill of the home; three sisters including Mrs. Maggie Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland, and Mrs. Dale Johnson of Raeford and one brother Ray mond Edwards of Fayetteville. Doby Funeral Home assisted the family. SUer Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Siler, 91 of Greensboro who died Sunday was held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from Rock fish Grove Baptist Church. Bishop R.L. Douglas officiated. Burial was in Rockfish Grove Cemetery. Survivors are: 2 daughters, Frances Ingram and Mrs. Georgia Hayes of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Hamilton of Wadesboro and Mrs. Minnie Staton of Rockingham; one brother, Ted Williams of Tabor Mary E.
