It has not been for lack of news but it has been impossible to report it. Calls concerning it has been ap preciated, and I hope to do better in the future. The Easter Sunrise Service at | Tabernacle Baptist Church Sunday Morning was well attended I am happy to report Dr. David Sutton, pastor of Galatia Presbyterian Church was back in the pulpit Sunday morning after being out the previous Sunday because of a throat and ear infec tion. The choir sounded beautiful and . the children really enjoyed their ' sermon. Communion was observ ed and three new members were ac cepted into the church. The Rockfish area was well represented at the meeting in Raeford, March 25, with the of ficials of the Carolina Telephone Company, and others who are in terested in getting the Raeford and Fayetteville telephone line merged. I Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Barbour ? extends an invitation to everyone to visit their gardens and share in the beauty. I am also happy to report that Mrs. Malcalm Gillis Jr., of the Galatria Community is at home after spending several weeks at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital. Douglas Monroe is recuperating at home after having surgery at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital* Ernest Barnard of Lake City, South Carolina visited Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard last weekend after attending the funeral of Mrs. Littleton Barnard in Cheraw, South Carolina. Mrs. Grady English visited her son Dwight English and family in Connerley Springs last week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wood of Greenville, North Carolina, visited Mr. Woods mother, Mrs. Martin Wood Sr., this past weekend. Mrs. Martin Wood Sr., has been on the sick list lately but seems to have improved some. Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Dove and son, Paul of Cheraw, South Carolina visited Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard Sunday after noon. Paul remained and is spend ing the week. Justin Sakabie celebrated his fifth birthday with a party Monday afternoon that included five family members and friends. Hot dogs, birthday cake and ice cream was enjoyed. He received many presents that were opened and shared with the other children. Cookout held for couple . Bruce Ellis and Ja'Nae Williams ' were honored at an Ellis family cookout on Saturday afternoon. It was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ellis on Dickson Street. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Ellis were co-hosts. The dining table was centered with an arrangement of spring flowers. An Easter motif was used throughout the dining and living | room decorations. After the meal, the couple was given gifts by family members. Out of town guests who attend ed were Mr. and Mrs. James Williams, the bride-elect's parents, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Dull and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wood, uncle, aunt and cousins of the prospective bridegroom. Local women promoting Raleigh spring tour Mrs. Mary Virginia McFadyen and Mrs. Anne Hostetler are pro moting a Spring Home Tour in Raleigh which will benefit the North Carolina Museum of History. The N.C. Museum of History Associates is sponsoring the tour. It will feature eight Raleigh homes on April 18, 19, and 20. The ar chitecture of the homes ranges from colonial to contemporary. Features are fine antiques, elegant details, noted artwork, and prize winning landscaping. Tickets cost $7.50 per person presale, $8. SO at the door for non members, and $7.50 at all times for Associate members. Bus tour groups are welcomed; the group should notify the Museum Associates office of the date it plans to visit the homes. The Education Department met in the History Room of the Hoke County Public Library with Chair man Mary Helen Senter presiding. Hostesses were Darlene Clark, Doris Austin and Shirley Gibson. The program was provided by new school board members Shirley Gibson and Eddie McNeill. They discussed community concerns and their roles as members of the Board of Education. The depart ment made plans for attending board meetings in the fall. In its business meeting the Department presented a book to the Library in memory of Mrs. Florrie Cameron. Money was given to help Special Olympics, a campership for the Club camper ship project, and scholarships to the valedictorians at Hoke High School and Upchurch Junior High. The Public Affairs Departments meeting this month was a trip to Raleigh to visit Representative Danny DeVane at the Legislative Building. Representative DeVane had invited them when he spoke to the group in a previous Depart ment meeting. The women saw the legislators in session and toured the Governor's Mansion. Mrs. Frances McLean was an honored guest when the Arts Department of the Woman's Club met on Thursday. The group went to the Fayetteville Little Theater as a group to see Gypsy. As Department members and their guests came together at the Library, Mrs. McLean was given a corsage of roses. She was the Department's guest for the play and during the evening it was an nounced that she is to become an honorary member of the Depart ment and the Club. Mrs. Brenda Edwards, Club President, made several an nouncements of Club news. She announced the May banquet and golf tournament decision plans. Mrs. Kay Thomas announced that the Department officers for the coming year will be Mrs. Har riett McFadyen and Mrs. Sue Fant, Co-Chairmen, Mrs. Sarah M. McNeill, Secretary, and Mrs. Mary Cameron, Treasurer. The Garden Department met at the home of Katie McLeod. Aline Wright and Ireni Autry were hostesses. Ms. Ross of the Hoke 4-H program was the invited guest. She spoke to the group about 4-H activities and asked the Depart ment for ideas for Club beautifica tion projects. Members suggested a need to beautify the grounds of several community public buildings. At each of the Department meetings, these items of club news were discussed: ?Each department is to provide a minumum of ten volunteer hours in landscaping work at the depot. ?Each department is asked to support the work of the Literacy Council by becoming tutors. (This means taking training. Harriet McFadyen is the Club co-ordinator for this project.) ?The Club has joined the Chamber of Commerce. ?The Club will sponsor seven children in the summer Camper ship Project. Each department will pay expenses for a child and the Club will send three from its Treasury. ?The Club has circulated peti tions to its members asking sup port for the expansion of our telephone service and the widening of Hwy. 401. ?The May Club meeting will be a Spring Banquet on May 9. It is planned for the Raeford Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall at 6:30. The cost will be $7 per person. The guest speaker will be City Manager Tom Phillips.
