ARTISTS ~ North Carolina artists' submissions for the 1985 Annual Competi tion for N.C. Artists will be ex hibited at the Fayetteville Museum of Art from April 21 to May 19. The exhibit will in clude both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art forms. The Museum, located behind Eutaw Shopping Center, is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. - S p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission is free. Artists may obtain entry form for Art Competition at the Fayetteville Museum of Art. Slide entry deadline is February 25. For more information call 485-5121. April 24-28 POET VISITING - Andrei Codrescu, renowned poet and Visiting Professor of English at Louisiana State University, will be a Visiting Fellow in the Humanities at St. Andrews Presbyterian College April 24-28. Codrescu 's Friday lec ture and reading are open free to the public. May 2-Jaac 6 FINANCIAL PLANNING -A six-week course entitled "Financial Planning: Invest ment Decision Making for the Retiree" will be offered by the Continuing Education Depart ment of Sandhills Community College on Thursday evenings beginning May 2, and ending June 6. The class will meet from 7-9 p.m. at the West End Elementary School on Highway 211 near Seven Lakes. Interested individuals nay register at the first class meeting on May 2. The classes will be held on four evenings. May 7, 14, 21 and 2S and are co-sponiored by the FayetteviUe Museum of Art and the FayetteviUe Parks and Recreation Department. In conjunction with "Secretaries Week" the five Chambers of Commerce in Robeson County, along with RTC, are co-sponsoring a "Communication Skills Workshop" for Secretaries A I9&5 " GRAMMY AWARD WINNER" - Evangelist Shirley Caesar Williams of Durham will be preaching and singing Thurs day, April 25 at St. James United Church of God, Radford at 8 p.m. April 25. 26 "SPRING GALA" - The Dance Theater of Fayetteville will present a varied program including jazz, modem, and classic ballet on April 25 and April 2t at 8 p.m. at Reeves Auditorium, Methodist Col lege. Fayetteville's regionally ffUiwd dance, company will present original works by Sarah White, Ann Clark and Donnita Dicus as well as the third act of "Don Quixote." One piece will feature the world premiere of music by a former Fayetteville resident, Greg Porter, who is presently at the New England Conservatory. Mr. Porter com posed the piece especially for the Dance Theater's Spring Gala. The company features regional dancers from Fayet teville, Erwin, Laurinburg, Fort Bragg, Lumberton and other areas. Tickets are $4 for adults, S3 students and may be obtained at the Arts Council or at the door. May 4 BARBECUE - The Hoke County Law Enforcement Association will sponsor a Bar B-Que plate sale on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gibson Cafeteria at Hoke High School. Plates will be S3. SO. Eat in or take out. May 4 FISH FRY ? Pittman Grove Baptist Church will sponsor a fish fry on Saturday, May 4. Tickets are S3 and may be pur chased from any church member or call 875-2781 . Pro ceeds go to the church building fund. Time 11 a.m. -7 p.m. May 4 THUNDERBIRDS - The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team will highlight the Pope AFB-Fort Bragg Open House May 4, in conjunction with the annual Fayetteville Dogwood Festival. The Golden Knights, the Ar my's official Parachute Demonstration Team will also perform at the open house May 4. May 5 MISSIONARY PROGRAM -Rev. Oti? McPhatter of MQlside Holiness Church will render services at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church (near Wagram) Sunday, May 5 at 3 p.m. in behalf of the mis sionary's. SPEAKING WORKSHOP -The Hoke County 4-H Pro ?r?m will sponsor a Public Spatting Workshop for all in terested youth ages 9-19. The workshop will be held this Thursday, April 2S at 7 p.m. at the Agricultural Extension Ser vice Office. Participants will ban the parts of a speech as aa tips for presenting a speech. The instructor will be Administrative Assistants working with others. This workshop will be held Thurs day, April 25 from 8:30 a.m. -I p.m. at the Southern Kitchen Restaurant. TocsiImv April 30 BAND CONCERT - The Hoke High Band will present their Spring Concert, Tuesday night. April 30 at 8 p.m. in the Mac Donald Gym. A variety of musical selections will be per formed plus memories from the fall. There is no admission and the public is invited. SEWING WORKSHOP -There will be a beginning sew ing workshop for anyone wishing to learn to sew, starting April 30. The workshop will be held from 6:30-8:30 at the Lester Building on South Magnolia Street. The re mainder of the dates are ten tatively set for May 6, 9, 13, 14, but this will depend on needs of the class. Participants will make a garment during class. The class is sponsored by the Agricultural Extension Service, and the charge is only SI, which will cover supplies for sewing machines. Class size is limited to 10, and interested persons may register by calling 875-2162. ? . Saturday Miyll ARTIST SOUGHT - Do you crochet, knit, crave, paint, grow vegetables, bake cakes? If so, you should be part of this year's Saint Pauls Folk Festival, on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The year's event will be the Seventh Annual Celebration of the heritage and culture of the area, with music, dancing, food, arts and crafts. The festival will be held on the grounds of the St. Pauls Mid dle School, and is sponsored by St. Pauls City Schools and the N.C. Arts Council. For more information call (919) 865-4288. Bride honored Carolyn Jones Miller was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower given by her sisters on April 20. Hostesses were Madilyn Evans, Yvonne Miller, Sharon Valentine and Joanne Bease. The party was given in the Bease home. Fifteen guests attended. They were served cake squares, mints, nuts and finger foods. Games were played, and prizes given the winners.
