Mr. and Mrs. Carson Davis were in Wilmington for several days last week to be with their son, Carson Davis, Jr., while he had back surgery. Mrs. Muriell Matheson has moved to Duke from the hospital in Coral Gables, Florida where she has been ill for several weeks. Last week several ladies from Raeford visited her. Weekend guests of Mrs. Dixie Autry ?were her son, Earl N. Autry, and his wife of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Garner and Josh of Pembroke. They all attended the Homecoming services at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mr/1 and Mrs. Dewey Picklesimer of Lexington, Ken tucky visited their daughter, Mrs. Bobby Lentz and her family last week. The 7 p.m. ceremony took place in the Raeford United Methodist Church. The Reverend Arthur Winstead officiated for the double ring rites. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Glenn Townsend of Raeford. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hilliard Barnes of Fayetteville. Musicians for the wedding were Mrs. Lewis Upchurch, organist, Barbara Lawson and Owen Wid man, soloists. Handbell choir members were Mary Parish Coley, Mary Ann Poole, Mollie Up church, and Pam Woodell. The selections included "Eternal Life", "Be Thou with Them", and "Go in Peace". The candlelit church was decorated with large Boston ferns and flower arrangements of calla lillies, lily of the valley, gyp sophila, and eucalyptus. Pairs of 15, 9, and 7-candle candelebra filled the front of the church; alter nating pews held candles in glass globes, with eucalyptus, springrai and white satin ribbons. The Nar thex held large arrangements on stands. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of ivory silk taffeta and re embroidered Alencon lace ac cented with silk venise lace, iridescents and pearls. The Vic torian style bodice featured a high lace neckline and sheer yoke which extended to the waistline in the back. Tiny covered buttons and loops closed the back. The lace sleeves were long and fitted. The semi-gathered skirt had a pyramid of Alencon lace and beading on the front. A very wide border of Alen con lace extended into the cathedral train: A toque of lace and beading was custom designed to hold the bride's mantilla. Her arm bouquet was of white calla lillies, lily-of-the-valley, and gypsophila with white satin streamers. Two handkerchiefs were also carried by Miss Town send. One was a Townsend family heirloom furnished by Mrs. Russell Powers, the bride's cousin. The other was a handkerchief car ried by a number of brides, and lent to Miss Townsend by Mrs. Bobby B? McNeill. Mrs. John Jacob Requard of Baltimore, Maryland was matron of honor. She wore a formal gown of candlelight moray taffeta, styled with natural waist, tulip sleeves and a full skirt. Her bou quet was of lemon leaves encircled with springrai fern and other greenery. Bridesmaids were Miss Teresa Crumpler of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Pauls Hamilton of Winston Salem, Miss Kim Miles of Charlotte, Mrs. Barbara Richard son of Aberdeen, and Mrs. Janet Sordello of Jacksonville. Their dresses and flowers were identical to those of the honor attendant. The groom's father, George Hilliard Barnes, was his best man. Ushers were George Barnes, brother of the groom, of Hope Mills, Ty Barnes, brother of the groom, Emery Ramsey and Gary Thomas of Fayetteville, and Robert Glenn Townsend 111, brother of the bride, of Raleigh. The men wore formal evening clothes with white tie and white gloves. The groom's boutonniere was lily-of-the-valley, the groomsmen's were stephonotis. The bride is a graduate of Hoke High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The groom is a graduate of Severi ty First High School of Fayetteville and attended East Carolina University. He is employed by Brian Pontiac-Cadillac-Honda in Fayetteville as a sales represen tative. The Barnes will live at 5717 Af tonshire Street in Fayetteville after their wedding trip to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Reception The bride's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Townsend, entertained with a buffet supper in their home after the ceremony. Guests were served Russian tea as they arrived. Rehearsal Dinner The parents of the bridegroom entertained with a rehearsal dinner at 6:00 on April 5 in The Raeford United Methodist Church fellowship hall. After dinner the wedding party moved into the sanctuary for the rehearsal. Later the guests were invited to the home of the bride where they were served the groom's cake and coffee. Bridesmaids' Luncheon Mrs. Russell Powers of St. Pauls and Mrs. William Howell were hostesses for the bridesmaids' lun cheon at the Howell home on April 5. The sixteen guests were seated at the dining room table and at small tables in the living room. Spring flowers decorated the tables. The hostesses' gift to the bride was a basket of silk flowers. Wedding Brunch A wedding brunch honoring the bridal couple was held at the home of Mrs. Julius Jordan at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 6. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hostetler, Dorcus Hostetler, Mr. and Mrs. Ken McNeill, Kim McNeill, Mrs. Julius Jordan and Anna Jordan. A bridal bouquet of white silk tube roses and silk ribbons decorated the front door. Spring flowers were used throughout the house.
