Man killed in accident A 27-year-old Cameron man was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was riding ran head on into a pickup truck Friday. Michael Lee Smith of Rt. 1 Cameron died around 1:10 p.m. at the scene Friday following a head on collision with a truck on State Road 1104 near the Scotland County line in the Lilly area, state Highway Patrol Sgt. D. L. Min shew said. The 1966 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by McKinley Maynor, 76, of Rt. 1, Red Springs, apparently swerved over the center line and hit Smith near the shoulder of the road, Minshew said. As of press time, Maynor had not been charged, but the incident was still under investigation, Min shew said. Both vehicles were a total loss. Maynor received slight injuries, the investigating officer said. The motorcycle was owned by Albert Frederick Lewis of Wagram, Minshew said. Hillcrest was joined by the North Raeford and Rockfish fire departments, said Barrington. According to a report by Medical Examiner Dr. Riley Jor dan, the causes of Barefoot 's death were heat and smoke inhalation, said the sheriff. The fire, which started in a back bedroom, was apparently caused by faulty wiring, Barrington said. The sheriff said that Barefoot's wife and children were awakened during the fire and escaped. A source close to the family said family members thought Barefoot was behind them during the escape. Barefoot's body was found at the foot of his bed, possibly in dicating that the man tried to get out of the burning house, said Bar rington.
