DEADLINES: Weddings A Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. ' Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. Barbara Jean Mclntyre Engaged The engagement of Miss Bar bara Jean Mclntyre to Dennis Daniels is announced by her parents, Evester Mclntyre and Hazel Mclntyre. The prospective bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Daniels. Miss Mclntyre, a graduate of Scotland High School, is a student at Richmond Technical Institute in Hamlet. Daniels is a graduate of Hoke High School. He attended Kings Business College in Raleigh and is employed by Burlington Industries in Raeford. The wedding is planned for June IS. It is to be a garden ceremony at the home of the groom's parents. Personals Major Paul Currie visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David S. Currie Jr. this past week. He was enroute to his new assignment in Naples, Italy where he will be working for NATO. His wife, Ma jor Gayle Currie, will follow him to Naples on June first. Garrett Jameson Foster, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Foster of San ford, celebrated his first birthday on April 12. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Foster of Route 1, Aberdeen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walls of Broadway. Rockfish News By Polly Barnard Tel. 875-2736 The Rockfish Extension Homemakcrs Club held their monthly meeting Tuesday morn ing, April 23 at 9:30 a.m. in the home of Mrs. Jimmy Culp. The meeting was called to order by the club president, Mrs. Mary Benkosky. Mrs. Star Sessoms had the devotion. Mrs. Alice Petit presented a very informative pro gram on "Food and Drug Interac tions." After the meeting adjourned, a delightful lunch was served by the hostess and a social hour was en joyed. + * * Congratulations to Anna Kokoruda for winning a blue rib bon in the "1983 Hoke County 4-H Fashion Revue." Anna is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Kokoruda of the Davis's Bridge area. ? * * Mrs. Mary Benkosky, Mrs. Lawrence Barnard and Mrs. Johnny Gillis attended the month ly meeting of the Cumberland County Genealogy Society Tues day evening, April 23 in the Activi ty Room at Sears. ? * ? The brotherhood of Pittman Grove Baptist Church is sponsor ing a fish fry Saturday evening, May 4th, beginning at 6 p.m. at the church. The public is invited. * ? ? Congratulations to Melissa Pratt who was a National Award Winner of the United States Achievement Academy for her excellence in History and Government. Melissa is a ninth grade student at Hoke County High School and is the daughter of Ms. Janice Pratt of Rockfish and David Pratt. She is also active in the Rockfish 4-H Club.* * ? ? The community extends sym pathy to the family of Ms. Jean McColl who died Sunday morning following a heart attack Thursday. Graveside service and burial was held at Red Bluff Cemetery in Clio, South Carolina at 3 p.m. Monday. Luncheon honors two local women On April 27 Miss Susan Davis and Mrs. Susan Barnes were honored with a luncheon at Seven Lakes Country Club at Seven Lakes. Hostesses were Mrs. Har riette Mauney and Mrs. Joan Moses. .. Miss Davis and Mrs. Barnes were given daisy corsages. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Moses and Mrs. Mauney _and invited to the luncheon tables. The tables were covered with grey linen and had twin silk arrangements of flowers. Place cards for the sixteen guests were held in tated flowers hand made by Mrs. Moses' grand mother. The places were set with brass plates and pink linen napkins folded as water lillies. Chilled strawberry soup was served. Chicken salad and carrot muffins were the main course. Dessert was a raspberry parfait and a heart-shaped sugar wafer. Miss Davis received a gift in her china pattern from the hostesses. Mrs. Barnes received a gift of pewter. Malinda Grace Leggett Leggett-Morris plans announced Miss Malinda Grace Leggett is engaged to marry Capt. Wilbert Lee Morris on June 8 in Piney Grove Baptist Church. The an nouncement is made by Miss Leg gett's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. McLaughlin, Jr. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie James Leggett. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Eutha Mae Morris of Raeford. Miss Leggett is a graduate of Hoke High School and Fayetteville State University. She is employed by the Hoke County School System and teaches at Scurlock. She lives in Raeford. The groom-elect is also a graduate of Hoke High School and Fayetteville State University. He is a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The couple's wedding is planned for May 12 in the Raeford United Methodist Church at 3:00. ? ? * On April 8 a luncheon was given by the members of the Monday Morning Bible Study Group in the Fellowship Hall of the Raeford United Methodist Church. The bride-elect was given a cor sage of white daisies when she ar rived. Seventeen members and five special guests showered Miss Davis with gifts. A linen and lace covered table was centered with a mixed arrange ment of spring flowers. Punch was served with ham biscuits, sausage balls, cheese straws, fruit salad, cake squares, nuts and mints. ? ? * A floating bridal shower honored Miss Davis on April 10. Hostesses were Mrs. Bertie Haire, Mrs. Rosa Williamson, Mrs. Sara Maxwell, Mrs. Jennie Carroll, Mrs. Margaret Allen, Mrs. Elizabeth Livingston, and Mrs. Mary Brady. It was held in the Fellowship Hall of the Raeford United Methodist Church. The honoree was given a silk corsage of pink roses when she ar rived. The table was covered with a lace and linen cloth. The pink silk arrangement in a silver Revere bowl which was on the table was later given to the bride by the hostesses. Cake squares decorated with pink roses, nuts, mints and punch were served. * * ? Mrs. Gary Hendrix entertained for Miss Davis on April 2. A floating shower was given in the Hendrix home on Shannon Road. The bride-elect was given a cor sage of pink carnations and a cof fee maker by the hostess. Twenty five guests came to bring gifts and good wishes. The dining room table was covered with a hand-made crocheted cloth and an arrange ment of pink carnations and babies breath. * * * A dinner party at the Wright home at Cross Creek Farm honored Miss Davis on April 23. Hostesses were Mrs. Gerald Win chester, Mrs. Wendell Young, Mrs. Leonard Ellis, Mrs. Charles Crowder, and Mrs. Ronnie Ellis. The sixteen guests were invited into the den for hors d'oeuvres and fruit punch as they gathered. The bride-elect was presented a corsage of white daisies when she arrived. Small tables were decorated with arrangements of white and pink daisies on white Unen cloths. The hostesses gave the bride elect gifts of crystal and china in her chosen patterns. ? * * Mrs. Robert Town send and Mrs. Glen Barnes were hostesses for a luncheon honoring Miss Davis on April 24 in the Townsend home. As she arrived, the bride elect was given a corsage of pink and lavendar tube roses. Guests were invited into the den for sparkling grape juice, crackers, and cheese. A meal of oriental chicken salad on pineapple shells with an assortment of fresh fruits was served in the dining room. Lime sherbet with sugar wafers was served for dessert. Places were laid with pink linen mats on the dining room table. The hostesses' gifts of china and crystal in the bride-elect's chosen patterns were presented in the liv ing room. * * * On April 18, Mrs. Joyce McDiarmid, Mrs. James William son, and Mrs. Jimmie Warner hosted a kitchen shower for Miss Davis. The dining room table was covered with a country quilted cloth and centered with an ar rangement of spring flowers.
