DEADLINES: Weddings A. Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. JxiL Parties held for couple Miss Susan Davis, bride-elect of Richard Jones, has been honored recently at a number of parties. The couple plans to marry on May 12 at 3 p.m. in the Raeford United Methodist Church. A cook-out honoring Miss Davis and Mr. Jones was given on April 30. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Luke McNeill and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Up church. The party was given in the McNeill home. The bride-elect was given a cor sage of white daisies when she ar rived. The hosts' gift for the cou ple was crystal. On May 3 a floating shower honored Miss Davis at the home of Mrs. James Davis. Other hostesses were Mrs. Nancy Payne, Mrs. Jack Tucker and Mrs. Edith Best. As they arrived, the bride-elect, her mother and groom's mother were given pink carnation cor sages. The table was covered with white lace and linen. There were arrangements of fresh spring flowers. Cake squares, mints, nuts, cheese biscuits, and punch were served. Thirty-five guests came to bring gifts and good wishes. The hostesses gave the bride-elect a set of microwave cookware. Aunts and uncles of the prospec tive bridegroom gave a cook-out at the Jones Barn to honor Miss Davis and Mr. Jones. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones of Raeford, Mr. and Mrs. Buck McNeill of Antioch, Mr. and Mrs. Whiteford Jones of Colonial Heights, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. Ruddy Cobb of Merry Hill. A country corsage of yellow daisies was presented to the bride elect. Forty guests enjoyed barbecue chicken with all the trimmings. The couple was given a wooden country plaque. Births Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Beatty an nounce the birth of a son on April 21 in Moore Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Futrell an nounce the birth of a daughter on April 22 in Moore Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Watts of Wilmington announce the birth of a daughter, Amy Catherine, born April 26. Mrs. Watts is the former Cathy Newton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Newton. Paternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watts. Closed On March 30, the ROTC unit at Hoke County High School held their first annual military ball. According to Instructor Major Carlton L. McGuire, the dinner was just an extension of the classroom in that it taught students the correct etiquette for a formal dinner. Crowned at the ball were the King and Queen of the affair. Pictured are Sandra Henderson, third runner-up, Rhonda Locklear, second runner up. Adriane McPhatter, first runner up and Valarie Cunningham, the winner. Also are Mark Black, William Carten, Bruce Moore and, the king. Garret Edens. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Willie Harrell celebrated their forty-second wed ding anniversary on Sunday, May 2. Their children and grand children gathered for a dinner at Chason's Barbeque in Lumber Bridge. Ricky Daniels and Korina Len tina from Long Island, New York spent the weekend with his aunt, Virginia Daniels. Mrs. Ed Manning was one of the hostesses who entertained for Miss Susan Davis on April 23. Her name was omitted from those who hosted a dinner party at Cross Creek Farm. Marilyn Ann Blake, a freshman at Columbia Union College of Tomaco Park, Maryland, has been initiated into the National Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma. Miss Blake is the daughter of Alvin Bruce Blake Jr. and Mary Catherine Blake of Route 2, Raeford. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ozell Hester and Evelyn Fields. k She attended Hoke County High School. She has been named to Who's Who, Society of Distinguished High School Studfents, National Honor Roll, and N.C. Volunteer Award, 1984, among others. Beasin were married in a garden ceremony at her home. The Rev. C.J. Bordeaux, pastor of the bride, of ficiated for the double ring vows. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. James T. Cothran of Lumberton and the late Mr. Cothran. She lives on Route 5, Lumberton and is the owner of The Charmette of Lumberton. The groom is stationed in Hoke County with the N.C. Highway Patrol. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Beasin of Greensboro and the late Mr. Beasin. The bride's daughter, Tara Cothran Warwick, was maid of honor. She escorted her mother through the garden to the bride's brother, Jimmy N. Cothran, who gave her in marriage. Mrs. Norma Hoffman of Lumberton was honor attendant. The groom's best man was Dr. Carl Hoffman of Lumberton. Usher for the bride's mother was Andrew P. Cothran of Fayet teville, brother of the bride. Usher for the groom's mother was John Beasin of Greensboro, brother of the groom. Musicians for the wedding were Ann and Bob Johnson of Red Springs and Harriette Floyd of Fairmont. The wedding was directed by Mr. Jo Anne Allen of Rockfish. After a wedding trip to Hawaii and Las Vegas, Nev., the couple will live in Hoke County. Reception The bride's mother and the bride's daughter hosted a reception which followed the ceremony. Guests were greted by Mr. and Mrs. Rochelle Simmons of Lumberton. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hayes of Evergreen. Assisting the hostesses were Mrs. Sharon Prevatte, Lili Richardson, Mrs. Linda Britt, Joy Stinson and Mrs. Jo Anne Allen. Pre-Nuptial Festivities Miss Jan Tedder and Mrs. Marlena Swift entertained for the bride on March 10 with a tea in the Lumberton home of Miss Tedder. Fifteen guests attended. The hostesses' gift for the bride was an assortment of lingerie. On April 11, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Hoffman, the honor attendants for the wedding, gave a cocktail party in their home in Lumberton. The sixty guests were entertained by Dinse Winnies at the piano.
