Girl Scouts receive camp tents The Raeford Jaycees donated five-four men tents to the Girl Scouts just in time for the day camp to be held at Lake Alice. Charles Crowder, coordinator of the project, presented the tents to the field director Emma Mims and two scouts, Tonya Murdock and Chonette Cherry. The purpose of the Girl Scout Program is to provide Girl Scouts with trained leadership to more troons so that more girls will have the quality of Girl Scout Program that the community and parents expect and the quality of program that makes a difference in each girl's life. The mission of the Girl Scout Council is to deliver a Girl Scout Program which leads to positive relationships with others, service to society, development of values and a deepening awareness of self as a unique person of worth. The aim of the program is to serve one Electricity camp offered The North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service along with several power companies in the state are sponsoring the second 4-H Electricity and New Technology Camp for 12 to 16 year olds. It will be held August 4-9 at Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Camp in Reidsville. During the day, swimming, canoeing, volleyball, archery, crafts, trampoline, photography, and a special rocketry project are al! available to participants. In the evening there will be dances, sports, astronomy, talent shows, a magic show, and a demonstration of radio controlled airplanes. The fee will be $100. This in cludes room, meals, insurance, transportation to camp, and all necessary camp expenses. Remember, only a limited number can attend and the ap plication deadline is July 15. Presently scouts are serving one of eight girls in Hoke County. There is a total of 17 troops in Hoke County with a membership of 210. The tents donated by the Jaycees will enable the troop leaders to in crease outdoor program oppor tunities to troop members. Camps and day camps for the girls and adults will promote, ex pand and deepen an appreciation of our natural environment, and strengthen skills in outdoor living. The tents will be available to all troops to use when camping over night. Adult workers are needed for the Day Camp to be held June 24 through June 28.
