Deaths & Funerals Hay WffTtfl Alvin Timothy "Hap" Hansen, 59, one of the best-known radio personalities in Eastern North Carolina, died Sunday after a long bout with lung cancer. Hansen, who last year began broadcasting Southern gospel music on his own station - WSMR in Hoke County - hosted an im mensely popular all-night country music show, "Interstate 68," for six years while with WPTF in Raleigh. In 1979, Hansen became farm programming director for WPTF, Channel 28, after co-hosting the Early Bird Farm Show every morn ing with Johnny Hood. Hansen also had done an early morning TV talk show and was the weatherman on the 6 p.m. news for WPTF-TV. Hansen bought the 1,000-watt Hoke County radio station in 1984. In an interview, Hansen said: "I belong in Christian radio ... The Lord has finally decided he's going to use me. I want to die doing this. I love radio, and I want the last thing I ever do to be an air shift." After serving in the Navy during World War II and eight years as a journeyman machinist at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, Hansen began his radio career in Jacksonville in 1934 as an announcer for WJNC. Before joining WPTF, Hansen also worked at radio stations in Kinston, Dunn and Benson. Hansen is survived by his wife, Charlotte Cole Hansen; a son, Bud Hansen of Cary; two daughters, Mrs. Christine Henry of Cary and Mrs. Sandy Jockish of Apex; and four grandchildren. He is also sur vived by three stepsons, Calvin Cole and Bill Cole of Raleigh and Bobby Cole of Rock Hill. A funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes-Barton Baptist Church. The family received friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Lowder Adrain Crawford Lowder, age 62, of Route 1, Aberdeen died Saturday at Moore Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, at the Bethesda Cemetery, with Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Margaret Jackson Lowder; a son Kemp Lowder, of Aberdeen; a daughter: Kay Brenigan, of Greensboro; two brothers: Alton Lowder, of Goodletsville, Ten nessee and Harold Lowder, of Aberdeen; a sister; Mrs. Sarah L. Strother, of Raeford, and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Powell. Funeral Home of Southern Pines. Rudyard K. Nash Rudyard Kipling Nash, 87, died Wednesday afternoon at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayet teville. Funeral Services were held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Baptist Church by Rev. George McKeithan. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Survivors are his wife: Mrs. Beatrice S. Nash of Raeford; Ave sons: (Adopted) Mike Maroney of Chesapeake, Virginia, Robert Maroney of Atlanta, Georgia, Charles Maroney Sr. of Raeford, Charles Maroney Jr. of Raeford, and Kipling Nash Maroney of Raeford; three brothers: Paul Nash of Danielsville, Georgia, Equerd Nash of Danielsville, Georgia and Jack Nash of Danielsville, Georgia; one sister: Mrs. Vela Sartian of Danielsville, Georgia; six grandchildren and 1 1 great-grandchildren . Crumpler Funeral Home served the family. Johnnie King Johnnie A. King, 67, died Thursday evening. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Raeford Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. John Ropp. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Survivors are his wife: Mrs. Ber nice King, two brothers: Arch King of Red Springs and Tommie King of Evergreen; two sisters: Miss Ethel King of Evergreen and Mrs. Blanche Ritter of Robins. Crumpler Funeral Home served the family. Margaret E. Nutter Mrs. Margaret E. Nutter, 63, died Thursday morning at her home. Lamar Currie Jackson Funeral services for 27-year-old Lamar Jackson, who died after a motorcycle crash, were held Wednesday at the Stanley Point Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Services were conducted by the Rev. Darrell Rooks. Burial was to follow at the church cemetery. Jackson is survived by his wife, Terry Jackson and his daughter Samantha Jackson of the home. Also surviving are two brothers, Darryl Jackson of Hope Mills and Phillip Jackson of the Navel Sta tion of San Diego, California; one sister, Marlene Wofford of Mer rimack, N.J.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Currie Jackson of Fayet teville and his maternal grand father, James C.
