DEADLINES: Weddings <& Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. Elmore-Newton marrv On Saturday, May 25, Miss Anne Newton was married to Minister Roger Elmore. Bishop Dozier C. Shields presided at the double-ring ceremony at the Joy Temple Church in New Haven, Connecticut . The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Newton of New Haven, Connecticut and the neice of Mrs. Annie L. Gates of Raeford. She attended Quinnipiac College and is a graduate of the Church of Christ Bible School. She has a Bachelor of Theology Degree. The groom is the son of Mrs. Naomi Elmore of St. George, South Carolina and the late Mr. Elmore. He is a graduate of the Carver Bible Institute. Mrs. L. Shields was the wedding musician. She sang "The Lord's Prayer." The bride was escorted by her father. Her matron of honor was Mrs. Marietta N. King. Maid , of honor was Mrs. Flora R. Newton, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Genine M. Gates of Raeford, cousin of the bride, Gloria Heggins, Irma Elmore of St. George, South Carolina, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Sharon J. Long. Miss Jada Pope, daughter of the bride, was flower girl. Best men were Amos Brand, un cle of the groom, and Timothy Epps, both of Norwalk, Connec ticut . Ushers were Minister J. Dicker son, James C. and Joe Newton, brothers of the bride, and Bernard J. Smith. Master Ian Pope was ring bearer. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Hamden Italian -American Club. Army-Navy cloths covered the food tables. A four course dinner was served for the guests. On the evening before the wed ding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the bride's mother, Mrs. Flora J. Newton, in the home of the bride. After a wedding trip along the east coast, the couple will make their home in Norwalk, Connec ticutt. Mrs. Roger Elmore Parties held for couple ;; Miss Beth Wood and Mr. Stuart Walters plan to be married on June 22. Parties have been given in their honor this week. On Saturday morning, June 8, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cogswell enter tained in their home on Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville for the bridal pair. Guests arrived for brunch at 10:30 a.m. and were invited into the living room for refreshing lime drink. Miss Wood was given a long-stemmed white rose by the hosts. The rose was later used to mark her place for the meal. The Cogswell home was decorated throughout with cut summer flowers in mixed colors. Covers were laid for sixteen guests in the dining room, den, and sun porch. Miss Wood and Mr. Walters were given a set of hors d'oeuvre trays by the hosts. Attending from Raeford were Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wood from Newton were also there. On Saturday evening, June 8, a poolside buffet honored Miss Wood and Mr. Walters. The Fair way Acres home of Mr. and Mrs. Raz Autry was the setting. Other , hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Harold, Gillis, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Win chester, and Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Young. ?'"?J Guests gathered around the pool as they arrived. Miss Wood was ' given a minature grapevine wreath ' corsage which was tied with a red-' gingham bow. Dinner was served from a buffet laden with roast beef, ham, atv assortment of cheese and breads, vegetables, homemade pickles^ potato salad, and Mrs. Autry 's, famous Greek tossed salad. Pound cake and several flavors of. homemade ice cream were served for dessert. ; Guests were seated for dinner at; small tables covered with red^ checked clothes and centered with, small red lanterns. The hosts' gift to the honorees( was a thermos cooler and chaise lounge chairs. Mr. and Mrs. David Walters, parents of the prospective., bridegroom, and his brother, Louis Walters, came from Fayet-^ teville. Mrs. Charles Chason who has been on the sick list for several weeks seems to be improving at this time. ??? Many people and relatives in the community were saddened by the death Wednesday night of Archie Bunce of Strickland Bridge Road. Funeral service was at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church on Raeford Road. ??? Mrs. Gordon Barnard and Mrs. Jimmy Hill of Cheraw, South Carolina visited Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard Saturday after noon. ... . ft* . Robert Wood, "Rocky" Wood and Wayne Wood are spending the week in Tampa, Florida with Howard Wood. Friday was Howard's birthday. Happy Birth day! ??? The group shared festivities with the class of 1934, the members of which have been out of school one more year. There were 27 members of ihe '35 class and 13 from the graduating class of 1934.
