Presbyterians award scholarship to Currie The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has announced that William Rex Currie has been selected as a "Winner" in the 1985 National Presbyterian College Scholarship Competition. William, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Currie of Rt. 1, Red Springs, will be entering St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg this September as a Freshman. National Presbyterian ' College Scholars are selected on the basis of academic achievement and per sonal qualities of character and leadership, by a national commit tee in a nationwide competition with high school seniors from all over the United States who are considering attending one of the 65 Presbyterian-related colleges that participate in the NPCS Program. This year, over 900 students par ticipated in the NPCS Competi tion, of which 269 were named as winners. Awards are honorary as well as monetary and are determined on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Students demonstrating financial need receive monetary awards in amounts ranging from $100 to $1400. Honorary awards are offered where there is no finan cial need shown. William R. Currie Presbyterian young people who will be high school seniors in September 1985, and are consider ing attending a participating Presbyterian-related college, may obtain an application folder after September 1st from: National Presbyterian College Scholarships, Manager, Financial Aid for Studies, 475 Riverside Drive, Room 430, New York, NY 10115. William also received a scholar ship from the Women of the Church of Fayetteville Presbytery and St. Andrews Presbyterian Col lege. Baldwin is named non-com of quarter Staff Sgt. Wayne Baldwin, son of Lucille Arnold of Holmes Court, Raeford, has been named outstanding non-commissioned of ficer of the quarter for the 21 12th Information Systems- Squadron. The competition was based on job knowledge, significant self improvement, leadership qualities, ability to be an articulate and positive spokesman for the Air Force and other accomplishments. Baldwin is an inventory manage ment supervisor at RAF Chicksands, England. He is a 1977 graduate of Hoke County High School.
