Rtv. Frank Lloyd Jr. at his desk at Raeford United Methodist Church.
Rev. Lloyd begins duties
at Raeford United Methodist
The Reverend Frank I. Lloyd Jr.
has recently become the minister at
Raeford United Methodist
Church.
Reverend and Mrs. Lloyd
moved into the parsonage on Main
Street in June. They are the
parents of one son, Tim, and a
daughter, Debbie.
The Reverend Lloyd was born in
Riverton, New Jersey and attended
Houghton College. In 1951, he
joined the Navy and spent three
years in Pensacola, Florida. While
there he met and married his wife,
Dottie.
He attended Pensacola Junior
College and later, Mississippi
University. He is a graduate of
Duke Divinity school and has
served as minister in these charge
conferences: Cottage-Farm Hill,
and Silas in Alabama, Bynum,
Pittsboro and Selma in North
Carolina. He has also served as
hospital chaplain at Butner and
with the North Carolina prison
system.
He comes to Raeford United
Methodist Church from Newport.
Reverend Lloyd admits to a love
of music. He was a member of the
Navy band, has directed the youth
choir at three churches and will
often join the choir at Raeford.
"1 have been most impressed
with the friendliness of folks in
Raeford and their willingness to
become involved with a
newcomer," he says, when asked
about first impressions of his new
home.
He hopes that his ministry here
will see Raeford United Methodist
Church continue to grow and
mature, as he offers a "sound,
fundamental Christian phil
osophy" to his congregation.
Seeing him surrounded by
children on a Sunday morning as
he enthusiastically tells them a
story, it is evident that Reverend
Lloyd is already well accepted by
that portion of the congregation.
. . . Around Town
(Continued from page 1A) _
by Raz Autry caused me to hear
the following comments in the
composing room of The News
Journal.
The type was being pasted on a
page and Becky Jones, bookkeeper
of Dickson Press along with many
other duties, had to make the
following comment. "I didn't
know Mr. Autry had named his
book for Mr. Morris." Of course
the name of the book is "Bad
r Sam."
It is about a goat, so it could
have been named "Bad Becky"
because the both of us are hard
headed.
Enough said!

Sgt. D.L. Minshew of the State
Highway Patrol retired June 30. 1
don't know how long Minshew has
been in Hoke County but he could
have the record for the longest ser
vice in the county.
He has done a fine job on the
patrol and has made a good citizen
for the county. He has always been
ready to do what he could for the
town and the community when
called on for service.
Minshew will continue to live in
Raeford and was recently ap
pointed to the County Board of
Elections. I did hear that someone
stated that his retirement started
seven years ago, but was just made
official. The same announcement
was made about this writer.
Have a fine retirement Sgt., and
we hope for you the best in the
years ahead.

It was good to hear that Gov.
James Martin has appointed Mrs.
Ralph (Betty) Barnhart to the
Board of Trustees of Sandhills
Community College.
This appointment returns some
one to the board after an absence
of eight years. Paul Dickson served
16 years on the board before being
relieved by Gov. Jim Hunt.
We know the Betty will do a
good job and that she will always
have Hoke County in her mnd
when things come up that will help
the county.
Congratulations Betty!

It is good to know that they
haven't moved the celebration of
July 4 to Monday.

I have for years been against
veto powers for the governor, but
recently 1 have changed my mind.
It seems that party politics has
taken the lead over what is best for
the state. 1 believe a veto power
would make politicians think
before voting the straight party
line.
Think about this and maybe we
will get a chance to vote on this
issue!

It is good to read and hear that
the hostages are on their way
home. You can't overlook the
power of prayer!
