Hoke senior attends workshop Twenty-six North Carolina ris ing high school seniors, including one from Hoke County, interested in engineering or science careers have completed a two-week sum mer program in nuclear science and technology at North Carolina State University. Todd C. Clark, who is a senior at Hoke High and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burdette H. Clark of Rt. 2, Raeford, took part in the two week session. Dr. Ephraim Stam, NCSU pro fessor of nuclear engineering, directed the program. He and other nuclear engineering faculty taught classes and laboratory ses sions which introduced the students to nuclear science and its application to technology. Participants became familiar with the facilities of NCSU Department of Nuclear Engineer ing, including the PULSTAR research reactor and the com puterized neutron activation analysis laboratory. Radioactivity, nuclear reactions, nuclear energy, nuclear reactors and the study and practice of nuclear engineering were among topics covered during the program. The high school students were selected to attend the program on the basis of their academic records and SAT scores. On completion of the NCSU summer program, each participant received a certificate. After several years there he transferred to the Raeford Plant in the Spinning Depart ment where he presently works as a Spinning P.M. Technician, tn recognition of his loyal service, he was presented a diamond pin, 25 years certificate and gift by Plant Management. Polston graduates from FT I in nursing Angela Gayle Polston of Raeford recently graduated from Fayetteville Technical Institute with a degree from the dental assis tant program. She is the daughter of Susan and William G. Polston and the grand daughter of Mrs. Herbert Polston of Raeford. Angela is a 1983 graduate of Hoke High School.
