Yard of Month The home of Mr. and Mrs. Neill McNeill on Main Street in Raeford received the honor as yard of the month. The award is sponsored by the Raeford Jr. Woman 's Club and the Raeford-Hoke Chamber of Commerce. St. Andrews offering business ed As St. Andrews Presbyterian College prepares to continue the business of education this fall, the College's Continuing Education Program also is preparing to meet the business education needs of people who want to advance their careers. Continuing Education at St. An dress offers two certificate pro grams which serve to further the personal and professional interests of area residents. The Certificate in Business Management (CBM) Program is designed to enhance business skills and to improve managerial com petence. The program seeks to meet the needs of middle managers who want to increase their knowledge of their own field, in dividuals who feel that their educa tion is specialized and want to broaden their business background and skills and individuals who desire a career in business manage ment. The St. Andres Communica tions for Adult Needs (SCAN) Program focuses on the develop ment of practical abilities which can provide a clearer understan ding of communication arts and increase the effectiveness of in terpersonal skills. The program is tailored to the needs of individuals who seek to understand more fully the systems and processes by which people communcate and who want to improve their own communica tion skills. Currently, there are a dozen more individuals who are enrolled in the program and are in various stages of com pletion. The CBM program will offer two courses for the 1985 fall term. Principles of Accounting will be an introduction to the principles, rules and procedures of accounting with emphasis on preparing finan cial statements for users outside the firm. Topics will include the preparation of financial journals, ledgers, income statements and balance sheets. Principles of Marketing will be a functional analysis of marketing and its importance as an economic activity. The course will stress the understanding of the significance of marketing as a vital process in all types of organizations; an understanding of the functions, principles, concepts and techni ques of marketing and an understanding from both the marketing manager's and the con sumer's perspectives. The SCAN program, which was initiated last fall, also will offer two courses this fall. Cultural and Social Anthropology will in troduce students to the major con cepts, methods and findings of the study of the human experience. Emphasis will be given to an thropological approaches to research and analysis of the func tions of human groups including economics, technology, politics. ideology, art and language and their interrelationships. SCAN will introduce a special studies course in the fall specifical ly for continuing education students. Understanding and Com municating Ethical Issues in Medicine will explore ethical issues involved in modern medicine - abortion, organ transplants, kill ing and letting die and procreative technologies. The course is design ed to inform the student of these ethical issues and to provide specific skills for communicating one's convictions. Continuing Education at St. An drews is offered at one-half the normal per credit cost to adult students who enroll in no more than two courses per term.
