School personnel attend
teacher training workshop
Effective Teaching was the
theme of a week-long training
workshop attended by Dr. Ginny
Hayes, Mrs. Mary Archie McNeill,
Mrs. Rhenda Cameron, Mrs.
Lavetta Horton, Mrs. Linda Steed
and Mitch Tyler of Hoke County
Schools.
A total of 43 educators from the
South Central Region of North
Carolina attending the August
12-16 workshop at the Holiday Inn
Resort Center in Southern Pines.
During the previous week
another group of Hoke County
educators attended the Effective
Teaching Training.
Attending that session were Dr.
Robert Nelson, Allen Edwards,
Miss Emma Mims, Mrs. Gloria
Williams and Dr. Lenwood Simp
son.
Milton Williams had received
the training during last school
year.
The educators will now train
other teachers and administrators
in the school system.
The training included practices
which research has proven to be ef
fective in all curriculum areas and
grade levels.
The effective teaching training is
a part of the Initial Certification
Program which extends the four
year teacher training by colleges,
by two more years.
These teaching practices are the
basis for evaluation (called
Teacher Performance Appraisal
Instrument) for all classroom
teachers in North Carolina.
All of these new programs are
part of the new Quality Assurance
Program (QAP).
The goal of QAP is to improve
the quality and effectiveness of
teacher education programs (in
colleges and universities) and im
prove the quality and effectiveness
of teachers' teaching skills.

Immunizations: Free chart
Pick up a chart of needed immunizations at our
Prescription Counter. Be a defender against
unnecessary sickness.
Adults often become sicker from certain child
hood infections than children. Polio, for example,
usually hits adults harder than children.
Except for chicken pox, vaccines now protect
against most childhood viral illnesses. But since
some of these vaccines are relatively new, we
recommend adults double-check immunization
records, especially when in doubt of ever having
had the disease. A Doctor's blood test can help
ascertain your protection factor.
