When this borer gets into the trunk or limbs of the tree it's too late to effectively control it with in sectide. However, during the month of August new worms are hatched and will be actively trying to get into the above mentioned trees. Therefore, tree trunks and limbs should be sprayed to the point of run off during the last week of August and the first week in September with an application of Thiodan 50 WP or Lorsban 4 EC. For more information contact your local county extension office. Care of Azalea The September caterpillar is nor mally very active on azaleas during September. This worm can defoliate an entire plant very quickly. Continue to check your plants from now. through September for foliage feeders, and if they are found treat with an ap propriate insecticide. Do not add any more fertilizer to azaleas, rhododendron, or cen tipede grass this year. Fertilizer ap plied in late summer and early fall to these plants will prevent them from hardening off before winter. Without adequate preparation for cold weather the plant will suffer more cold damage during the winter months. Many plants are actually killed because of late fer tilization. Therfore, leave the feritlizer in the bag until next year! NOTICE All classified advertising must be paid for in advance unless you have an established advertising ac count.
