Tapes have been made at many TV stations to be played in the upcom ing weeks. The committee is work ing hard and expect big crowds during the four-day event. The committee will meet Thurs day night at eight o'clock at the Hoke County Library. If you have any suggestions to offer to the committee, go to the library and talk to them. Maybe they can find a job for you during the event. ? ? ? Most people, when they are ask ed to do something to help their community, will do so. They don't expect pay because they have pride in their city and county. The office of the Chamber of Commerce is being used by the Turkey Festival Committee as headquarters and the help there is doing all it can to promote the event. Now this means that sometimes the secretary must lock the office to attend to the festival business or the chamber business. This leaves the telephone unmanned during the time the of fice is closed. Now an important call could come in that would go unanswered, and this is not in the best interest of the county and city. Do you think you could spare an hour a day to help out at the of fice? It would mean just answering the phone and taking down messages. Now a lot of us retired folks, both men and women, could go by the chamber office and see if the time sheet would fit our schedule. It would certainly help the folks working on the festival and the chamber. I am going by tomorrow and would like for you to join me. If you can't go by there, just call 875-5929 and find out if there is a time that would suit you. ? ? ? Louise Bevan Sawyer told me g the other night that the Class of ? 1936 of Hoke County High School is working up plans for their 50th anniversary. She said that the ten tative date had been set for April of 1986. So if you are a member of this class and would plan to attend this reunion, then mark your calendar for April 1986. If this date doesn't suit you, then get in touch with * Louise. More details later. " ? ? ? Last Sunday The Raleigh News and Observer had a special section on football in North Carolina. Of course the major part of the sec tion was taken up about college football. One article in the section was about the 50 promising high school players in the state. Included in this group was Tarrell Carpenter { of Hoke County High School. He was listed as a running back. Now this is fine and good. Any news about Hoke County or Raeford helps everyone here. The only thing is that Tarrell is a prom ising track star and should be in the next Olympics. As we all know, it is easy to ruin a career in sports with a bad knee injury or a broken arm or leg. Is Tarrell an excep- ( tional running back? Will he be able to go on to college and the pros in football? If not then he should think about this future in track. We all want to play all sports and maybe he can excell in both sports. I would not say for him to give up football, but this is just something he and his coaches should think about. I ? * * " 1986 will be the 75th year of ex istence for Hoke County. The Jubilee of 1961 (50th year) was a big event in Hoke. Next week we will recall some of the things and talk about what we should do in 1986. "BANK REPOS" SALE ASSUME PAYMENTS 1984 DOUBLEWIDE, 3 BEDROOM, 2 Bath.
